Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Well...they won't buy Concord.

[–] Goodeye8@piefed.social 26 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Concord was a brand new IP, this is an established popular IP. The brand recognition alone probably sells a million units.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago

Or 1.9m in this case.

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

Damn... even idiots know that game sucks.

It must sting for the devs.

[–] threeonefour@piefed.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Lesson learned! You need a licenced character on the cover if you want idiots to buy it!

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Which is weird, because when I was a kid, having movie/tv/comic tie in games usually meant a rushed/bad game, and thus should be avoided.

I guess LJN had to go out of business eventually.

Idiots will pre-order anything. There were probably a lot of sales before the controversy even started.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] mursejoy@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I am sure a shit load of those sales were pre-release sales made by consumers that assumed the goodwill of Insomniac would translate to a win.

There is no reason to preorder a game especially on a platform that doesn’t regularly offer refunds.

Doesn’t sound like it’s a bad game, it’s just not anything amazing

I won a copy so I will play it one day

Yes, because has Sony released so many successful first party games in 2026...

[–] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 52 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

Lol I had to double check because I couldn't remember any.

We got...

  • Marathon
  • Saros
  • MLB The Show 26
  • Marvel Tōken: fighting souls

And this.

[–] mursejoy@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

Literally no reason to open a PS5 in the big 26’

This did better than Tokon? That makes me pretty sad

This might be a lot but keep in mind the INSANE budget for this game so despite this it's still nowhere near breaking even

What other exclusives did they release this year? Saros?

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (7 children)

They also put out Ghost of Yotei and Marathon (yikes).

Marvel Tokon too if you count console exclusives that are also on PC.

Edit: Whoops, I forgot Ghost of Yotei was late last year. Unless you're counting fiscal year starting in October I guess.

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Marathon. The best game most people will never play.

It really is very good.

[–] ampersandrew@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

They're reworking it into something else now in an attempt to salvage it, but for me personally, unless that involves being able to host the server myself, I'm not giving it the time of day.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I don’t know what Bungie was thinking putting all their effort into Marathon. People heard “extraction shooter PVP only” and checked the fuck out. Didnt help they delayed it and had the art theft debacle.

That game was going to struggle no matter how good it was at launch. THEN they stopped work on Destiny 2 right as Marathon came out despite Bungie promising the two games would co-exist and just pissed everyone off.

Masterclass in running a studio into the ground.

[–] ampersandrew@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Destiny was running the studio into the ground regardless of Marathon. Behind the scenes reporting says it had been a while since Destiny turned a profit, and by the time The Final Shape came out, the damage was already done. The reason they're not continuing with it is that it just burns through money.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

How did they think it would be any different? - when they remove the entire beginning of the game and expect people to just watch ~15 hours of archived gameplay on YouTube to understand what is going on - they were never going to gain new players, even as F2P.

[–] jontree255@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah the whole studio has been run like shit for years. They’re looking to sublet their huge office after firing like half the company.

Seems like an alright $5 buy down the road.

[–] Coelacanth@aggregatet.org 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm not convinced it's even worth my time, much less money.

Just barely eking out heavy hitters like Marathon, Marvel Tokon or God of War Sons of Sparta I bet.

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

buddy of mine bought this and I went over to his place to play it. It's boring. it holds your hand for everything and it's impossible to fail QTEs so there's just no point in doing them.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

To be honest, the only good quick time event is the one you don't have to do.

Proof that gamers have no spine (once again. See also Switch 2 and PS5 sales) and that online discourse holds no prediction of real world value.

One of the most common sources of alienation for me is seeing what other people, my alleged peers, spend their money on.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if everyone's spending habits became like mine. Lot of industries and practices would die.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The masses of non passionate gamers don't care the public perception or what the press has to say about a game. Especially so with popular franchises, see Pokemon, FIFA and Call of Duty as an example.

The bar is really low..

Atleast a new Hideo Kojima game should be coming soon...

[–] Mika@piefed.ca 8 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I can't imagine any reason to watch or play a game about american superheroes. Cringe asf.

It's always funny to see people on lemmy calling for boycotts, saying how stupid companies are for not making products they want to buy and predicting how badly things will fail only for the masses to completely ignore all this and spend money on the same shit as always.

[–] IamMoonPie@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

So glad I canceled my pre-order for this. A three minute quick time event where you don’t have to do a damn thing?! No thanks.

The level of comments here is no better than Reddit.
