New reddit was ahead of its time. It's like if someone coded AI slop today and used a time machine to go back to 2022 to host it.
News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
My 8-year-old Reddit account was shadowbanned a couple of months ago, and I don't know if I have the energy to try to get it unlocked. Turns out you basically have to beg the admins on a daily basis to undo whatever their overzealous AI censor did, so I might just let it wither on the vine.
Yeah, I was trying to troubleshoot an issue earlier this week and the results sent me there, logged in on my old account and it still redirects me to new reddit. I never bothered trying to use it before but it is fucking horrendous. Oddly old reddit does still work on my phone.
Welcome to lemmy. It's not perfect, but its entertaining.
Reddit became unusable when Bacon Reader went offline in the API shutdown.
It is just even more unusable now.
Agreed. Cutting off the API's was the start. But many of us got by with old reddit and it worked ok for lurkers. After they banned me I gave up on contributing but still lurked. They've effectively ended that with the death of old. And they made new reddit so glitchy and "sticky" that I don't even want to click the google search results links anymore.
Bravo Reddit. Throw away that last remaining benefit you offered.
Yup, I still have baconreader installed, I can't delete it.
For sure. Bacon Reader was the best. I changed all the colors for Connect to Bacon Reader colors to feel at home.
Fine, I’ll use new reddit.
Haha, gross.
Yeah it feels yucky. But like I said, since google search results still have a decade+ of answers that are often good I'm almost forced to eventually click a reddit link. Before this week that was not usually a problem. I didn't even convert every link to old reddit before they forced its end.
But as of this week any reddit link I click jams up my browser when I back-click. Its sticky and extra fucky. They are actively sabotaging reddit.
When you find a good reddit post with information, grab it and post it here with an asterisk that it came from a specific sub. Reddit has made fat bank off of user's content, so now users should return the favor and bring the best of it here. I've got my posts archived and am soring through them and rewriting the best ones to repost here.. Was on vintagemac and did a ton of how-to's.
I pay $10/month to Kagi so I can remove Reddit result from searches without having to add the flag to the query. Reddit has been garbage for 5 years now.
Kagi is legit, startpage is also good (and free).
Try Startpage, Kagi, and even Qwant.
Reddit shadowbanned my comments about moving to Lemmy and objecting to the API access for 3rd party apps. Straight up censorship.
I lurk by using one of these redlib instances
https://github.com/redlib-org/redlib-instances/blob/main/instances.md
I like the compact wide UI setting so less horizontal space is wasted.
Use a front like Redlib, there are also browser extensions to redirect your click
Nah I'm not doing that much work for reddit. It's going to start slowly dying off like facebook anyways. I'd noticed over the last year or so how much content from Indian subreddits were making the frontpage. Especially on weekends and the mornings of weekdays. I don't really need that, nor do I need the ads, bots, shills and other junk that has accumulated. Time for reddit to digg itself its own grave.
I agree but my point was that Reddit is still a valuable website to search infos when you need it, and a frontend is the best way to do it in every aspect.
Also pretty much effortless, just go here and search stuff: https://reddit.nerdvpn.de/
It's all indexed in the LLM's now, don't need Reddit anymore for Reddit answers.
AI are not credible for many specific things, a feedback by a real user is much more reliable
I've started doing this, one tip I have is there's an option in the settings Layout->Compact that makes it a bit more like old.reddit to browse
The Old Reddit Redirect addon works without logging in (for now).
They'll kill that soon. I'm done with workarounds. Them making new reddit jam up my browser was the last straw. Let it burn. It's mostly bots and shills these days anyways.
I use RedReader on andriod (GOS) to access Reddit. Reddit blocks my locked down brower over VPN so RedReader is my last option. Once that goes away, I'm done.
I read about that option but fuck it I'm not real into apps as it is. I can just not use reddit anymore. I don't really use facebook or xitter either. Life is better without them.
Sweet summer child...
Can we like... rebuild the old fashion message board infrastructure that reddit displaced decades ago?
They're still around!
Some are but many are not. And the survivors are way less populated than they were even a decade ago. Reddit must die so they can live!
