I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

I love how shiny and jangly the keys are!

[–] shath@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

they just keep moving

[–] Blakey@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

Amazing aesthetic sense.

I LOVE THE FUTURE. I LOVE DEATH. DEATH IS THE FUTURE

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 week ago

DEATH IS THE FUTURE

Technically, objectively true

[–] agentant@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

It's not even really gold, it's more of a bronze. I'm indifferent to the look of them(not that it's really relevant when you have unsupervised DriveGPT cars on the road).

Though tbf if they were shiny gold they'd look worse.

Does this Delamain dispose of bodies?

[–] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

this is like ipod hype. for those old enough, did ipod hype feel like this?

[–] sepiroth154@feddit.nl 24 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

No, but the iPhone hype did!

[–] CPMSP@midwest.social 7 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Nah, iPod hype kinda made sense.

[–] stink@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is more like Zune hype

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the zune was actually decent

[–] stink@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah but it wasn't groundbreaking IMO

[–] combat_brandonism@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

The next day:

VIDEO- HOUSTON ROBO TAXI PLOWS THROUGH A CROWD OF KINDERGARTERS TO CRASH INTO A FUEL TANKER TRUCK

Witnesses on the scene describe it was making a sound that could only be described as "maniacal laughter"

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago

Elon's response... poop-emoji happens

[–] RION@hexbear.net 15 points 1 week ago

Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight your wheels can get. Thanks for the motivation.

so, like, its gotta be pretty easy to abuse these for insurance fraud right?

[–] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The problem here is that it records everything. That could make insurance fraud harder than with a conventional vehicle. However, these ones do have way less sensors than other robotaxis because this is a Tesla and therefore very stupid. From what i could find out with a quick search, it has one internal and one external microphone and 9 cameras (2 at the front turn signals, 2 at the b column, 2 above the windshield, one in the front bumper, one for the interior and just one facing rearwards). No radar, no lidar, no microwave or ultrasound sensors.

The Musk cultists point out how cyberpunk this is, but in any cyberpunk universe this is obviously the shit option only used by low level NPCs.

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I understand. It is a machine with sensors and a complex algorithm that drive it and recording devices around it.

It is fallible and there probably are ways to exploit this fallibility despite the fact you are being recording. Exploits in ways that leave the thing legally liable. I'm thinking something that you might say, "Well, yeah, I just figured the thing would stop/turn/obey a traffic law like a human being would but instead it hit me/my car," type shit.

[–] Blockocheese@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

It looks like a shitty hotwheels

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

I do like that Elon was successfully bullied out of the ugly ass angular design.

But weren't the Teslas found to be much less safe than the other self driving cars? Opting not to use the rooftop LIDAR to rely solely on cameras is removing a safety feature.

There is probably a reason why wheel don't usually look like this?

[–] la_tasalana_intissari_mata@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Actually flat looking rims are better for aerodynamics and fuel/battery efficiency, the only reason we don't do this more is purely for aesthetic reasons.

How about brake cooling? Just asking, I'm not knowledgeable

Brake ducts, which I think are tubing systems that go from the front to the brakes. Also vents, you can notice vents in the pictures that are close to the wheel, designed to not trap air.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

Rare slop W

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

Space to let the brakes cool (though I think electric cars do a considerable amount of engine braking). Also, thicker tires are squishier and give a more comfortable ride.

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 week ago

I kinda dig the aesthetic... in my Cyberpunk 2077 game.

[–] EdlritchEconomics@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I absolutely loathe everything they stand for, but aesthetically I kinda don't hate it. Awful colour and the wheels are ugly but the overall shape is pretty slick. But then I'm a sucker for a coupe. I'd probably drive it if it was made by BYD, GWM or XPeng.

I’m in the same boat unfortunately, coupes are my weakness.

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

I like little vehicles, they tickle some part of my brain.

[–] whiskers165@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Waitt until you have giant rims on your car before you judge. I always thought giant rims looked ridiculous until the brief period I was driving around on 21"s.

I mean they still definitely looked ridiculous and I did switch down to 19"s pretty quick but there was some dumb childlike magic in walking to see over sized wheels on my car. I was in love with the giant rims until I saw the bill to replace the tires, immediate downsize

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So these "unsupervised" vehicles are still supervised remotely, right? Or is this actually fully autonomous?

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

fully

That word means whatever tech bros like Elon want it to mean.

[–] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 6 points 1 week ago

After I read the first paragraph, I thought they were gonna be opposed to it.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

These stupid things are all over NW Houston too, but they're all being driven by what I assume are Tesla employees. Haven't seen one without a driver yet.
