To me it seems like the VR market might have a high-end foothold but otherwise seems like a "try again in 30 years" for the general market (so, slightly better than 3D TV's fate). Which isn't really Valve-specific.

Though I'd also say is uncharitable way to frame it, the headline reminds me of the free PC codes for Portal 2 with Co-op crossplay early on in the Steam days. Though I'm sure AI-market-induced cost increase is a big part of it so apology actually isn't a bad way to put it, without 'failure' factoring in.

Uhhh, a friend said its unconformable, you get the headset more sweaty than usual, the lenses fog up, then you need to put down a controller to free your wanking hand, and then run the risk of getting nut on $1000 hardware.

Most the porn games with vr support also suck.

Honestly, vr porn is if anything less sweaty than most other vr games that have you moving your entire body around. With my Quest 2, a 3rd party fan exhaust attachment eliminated any humidity issues. Gesture control mode took care of no controllers.

Normal person sad. Temporary sad. A-few-manageable-aspects sad.

Sad, but:

with privacy in a spare room
spending money is easy and has good outcomes
with some social/hobby life
less self-awareness
no issue with account hoops for using/unlocking the device you paid for

Not that the sad bit is even the deciding factor here when we're talking about an expensive face brick that would probably give me motion sickness in games.

Can you cite anything showing that Valve made any profits what so ever off of the Steam Frame?

I'm supposed to prove they profited off a product that hasn't even been released yet?

Because in May they announcdd it was shifting away from selling them

Alyx was a marketing campaign for the index, so you would have to include all the index they sold because of alyx

Then why were you talking about material costs, steam deck comparisons, etc? How are you comparing a game to a hardware console?

Alyx to date has earned roughly $40.7m YTD

Alyx sold $40M in the 1st month alone and has broken the $100M mark by now, so you're incorrect.

Alyx didn't profit, so why would they even bother continuing to try and release Steam Frames?

Maybe because they're two different things that can stand apart from each other. Also all your arguments so far have been moot.

the index and even the cheapest of the competition was hella expensive so of course alyx wouldn't sell normal pc game numbers.

and they would continue releasing steam frames because they are already made...

even if it doesn't profit they will just cut their losses and make bank for the 900th time next steam sale
