Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1870 readers
204 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

I have no idea who deleted my post: https://anarchist.nexus/post/880380#comment_5219646
The post broke no rules at all, but apparently enough people got mad that they use software made by Nazis like DHH that it got pulled down.

This is the entire post:

If someone could help me out with the modlogs that I couldn't find, that would be awesome.

In short; it looks like my post was deleted because enough Nazis reported it.

Edit: cleaned things up and included the modlog

What community did you post this to?

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 12 points 6 days ago (2 children)
[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Everything is political, but this is explicitly political, and they have a rule against political posts.

And it's not even a meme. Maybe a Linux shitposts community would be a better fit.

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 10 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I don't see warning people about projects they really should not support because they are run by a Nazi as political, but more of a PSA. And not every meme is funny.

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago

The point is any place that claims apolitical as a rule is invariably a nazi bar.

especially in that context nazi is just being used to describe a political viewpoint

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

PTB. Lemmy.world is for liberal bullshit like supporting nazis.

[–] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 23 points 1 week ago (2 children)

LW is filled with Zionist and Nazis. I mean, the instance is ran by one.

[–] therealdries@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 6 days ago

So... just bog-standard liberals, then?

[–] zombiebikini@lemmy.zip 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Never heard that before. What is this based on?

[–] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

his continued support and defense of zionists and racists. including a mod that said he hated BLM because the protests were an inconvenience on his way to work.

[–] zombiebikini@lemmy.zip 10 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Ah, I was hoping for something to cite.

[–] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 14 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

all the evidence is in this comm. there are a few users who have compiled mega lists, but unless you talk to one of them you just gotta use search like the rest of us.

https://anarchist.nexus/c/yepowertrippinbastards/p/598019/lemmy-world-admin-mrkaplan-rages-over-anti-zionism-banning-users-and-defederating-ins

MrKaplan is German, and like the German government he is a raging zionazi who fully supports Israel. to the point he has attempted to bully other instances into letting him control what speech is acceptable. he views his FHF as the de-facto leadership of the fediverse because they own the largest Lemmy and Mastodon instances, and therefore control the gates into our communities.

Oh sorry, I meant some reference on the idea that lemmy.world is run by a nazi?

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 days ago

Most likely 'nazi' is being used to refer to a supporter of ethnic settler colonialism, rather than NSDAP.

[–] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

PTB. There's nothing political warning people about nazi-tainted projects.

[–] Daxter101@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I agree with your intent and your opinion 100%, also PTB, but god I hate what the word "political" means in the context you're using it.

Fascism and Nazi-ism are literally kinds of politics. Warning against fascism, is absolutely political.

A rule about not accepting political posts, is FUCKING POLITICAL. Instead of "no politics", a healthier rule could be "no political party themes".

"Well respected" state politics may be excluded, as there is still the pretense of "opinions of application", with the supposed common goal of "common good". (Mostly just a pretense, but a positive pretense nonetheless).

Forbidding politics to the point of forbidding warnings about fascism, is dangerous and damaging. Like forbidding warnings of danger, "because they don't fit the aesthetics of the space".

At best, stupid. At worst, protecting fascism.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 6 days ago

and by "no political , really means a specific type politics not being allowed" for these people claiming it.

[–] jumping_redditor@sh.itjust.works -5 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I fullly support communities that want to ban discussions of naziism based on it being politics because it is an idiotic distinction to make without explicitly stating.

[–] Grainne@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 days ago

You sound like a Nazi.

[–] Daxter101@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 days ago

Why is it idiotic?

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

They added a rule that posts cannot include an indivual - like the known Nazi DHH

[–] BasedMaquisEddington@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

DHH, the Ruby on Rails guy?

[–] quill7513@anarchist.nexus 13 points 6 days ago

known for RoR and hating brown people

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 12 points 1 week ago

The one and the same.

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@anarchist.nexus 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Actually, here it is. They are avoiding the topic that Linux now has a (more public facing) Nazi problem.

[–] Grainne@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

Lemmy.world is as bad as Reddit.

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 4 points 6 days ago

And it is on purpose too.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The lemmy dot world Nazi bar is alive and well I see

[–] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus 6 points 6 days ago

they ain't never beating the accusations. probably has something with them sending the Staatspolizei after anyone who criticizes zionists or nazis.

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I had the opportunity to tag more than one user defending Nazi/far right bullshit, so the post being removed wasn't a total loss.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's easy to see if someone is a Nazi or Nazi adjacent on the fediverse, just look for the @lemmy.world at the end of their username

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I wouldn't go that far. It is a huge instance, and I dislike sweeping generalizations. Saying that is similar to all the "hexbear can't criticize China" bullshit floating around.

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

china won't pay my rent. damn revisionists!

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 6 points 6 days ago

OK, that made me genuinely lol and I needed that

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That viewpoint of "the people I associate with have nothing to do with me" is exactly why instances like world delete things calling out Nazis though. If you participate in a space that happily shields Nazis from critisism, then you're willingly hanging out with Nazis and amplifying their voice.

Hexbear and China is a good example too as you've called out. If you're hanging out in Hexbear, then you're willingly participating in a space that doesn't buy into western media perception of China and doesn't allow critisism of China through that western media lens. So you aren't really wrong even if you're trying to get me with it. For better or worse that's the crowd and by participating in it one is amplifying those voices too.

It's important to look around us and see who we're hanging out with, who we're supporting, who were amplifying.

I don't amplify Nazis, because I don't participate in world. Those that do participate in world are though because world lets Nazis do their thing without criticism.

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 4 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I wasn't really trying for a "gotcha", and I generally agree. My point was more about prejudice over someone's views based on their instance alone, which I am sure you're well aware of. I can't say as much for myself and the instance that I am on since I chose very deliberately because of my beliefs. Average user from .world, though? While they may be unknowingly participating in the propagation of fascism, I doubt that they are vaguely aware of it. The moderation/admin? Fuck those turbo libs.

Edit: I am the worst at typing on mobile.

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 week ago

Remember, for your own mental health: sometimes the trash takes itself out.

Bad people use the Fediverse. We are not immune to fascists, paedophiles, bigots, and other problematic types because we lean progressive here. Block the bad ones as they make themselves known, and if they block you, they've done you a favour. Enjoy your nicer feed.

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@anarchist.nexus 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Did you message the mods? Maybe they're willing to see things differently?

Apparently your post was taken down for "politics", which is covered by that community's Rule 3...which also says that "Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux". So...IMO it's either Linux content and allowed, or linux-related Non-Linux content and allowed. It should be put back up.

Honestly it's a shit rule and I will be leaving that community until it's changed. In any case, add it to the list of liberal horseshit that lemmy.world is designed to impose on the rest of the Fediverse, and to the evidence for why we should join communities on other instances.

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 13 points 1 week ago

I did not message the mods. There were enough Nazis that basically self-identified through sealioning. That was enough for me. I baited out 2 Nazis.

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Also, yeah the "keep politics out" rule was there. I guess nptb here, but fuck. If you are willing to shill Nazi shit, then shut the fuck up (preferably forever)

Edit: words hard on mobile

[–] quill7513@anarchist.nexus 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

i wondered if you'd come in here.

PTB for sure

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I would like to point out that I appreciate you and all the admins of the FAF and what you do.

[–] quill7513@anarchist.nexus 12 points 6 days ago

i handle praise poorly so i'm gonna deflect to all the excellent work that came before me
