textoWELKER: As Democratic leader in the House, would you vote for or against Medicare for All?

JEFFRIES: It's not legislation that I currently am co-sponsoring or that I support, but I support the notion we've got to find a path forward to fix our broken healthcare system

"so... do you support medicare for all?"

"i support the notion of it."

"are you.. going to vote for it? co-sponsor it?"

"I do not, currently. But I am willing to if there are, with bi-partisan discussion."

"Across the aisle, to the republicans..?"

"yes."

[–] SnoopSqueak@lemmy.today 14 points 1 week ago

"Why would I vote for that? I already get free healthcare."

"I will not vote for a bill that will save lives but I support the idea that saving lives is good."

[–] LisaTrevor@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago

I support the idea of fixing the thing that is broken

no shit buddy, any ideas on how we might do that?

It's not legislation that I currently...

Hello, I am a neolib shit fuck. Please allow me to explain.

But I support the notion (we've got to)...

Holy shit - that's awesome. I'm stealing it.

I support the concept of a notion

It really is such wonderful dem phrase.

There's no way in fucking hell I will ever do that. But I support the notion because it'll get us votes!

I support the notion of not giving you the firing squad for being a reactionary actively loading rifle

God these people are so sauceless. How is it so hard to just say yes to the thing that will probably never actually get brought to vote but that is super popular?

Can’t for even one moment threaten to upset the people who pay you.

Is it doomer/unrealistic of me to believe we ain't never getting universal healthcare under capitalism?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think it's on the table if there's a socialist revolution with good PR somewhere near the imperial core and socialism is viewed as a threat again.

What about a demsoc Mexico?

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think the average american doesn't really think of Mexico as a real country in the way they think of european countries as countries, and so it wouldn't have much weight on political discussions the way it would if we had socialist France or something.

I think the US DemSocs would platform it. One of them did that today (directly reference Sheinbaum as elevating the living standards of the Mexican people) when he was being interviewed on Fox News. If you live in the States "didn't you hear Mexico is getting universal Healthcare?" Is a great conversation starter.

China is being taken more seriously by the US left every day, and that's been US since covid and ramping up in the past 3 years with things like the tiktok/rednote crossover.

The US is pretty persistent at rolling back any progress made to their south

[–] free_casc@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

That's exactly the kind of activity that will rouse a true socialist revolution. I'll certainly be joining the second Mexican American war on the side of Mexico. What an opportunity!

At least the libs on Reddit are pissed off about this exchange. Might get a few more to wake their sorry asses up.

After what happened last time with the Government shutdown over the Epstein files?

[–] Moomoo_Milk@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

I’m being hopeful

I largely concede that good things are good, but doing something about it is a little bit extreme, don'tcha think?
