Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

So, he owns a thousand billboards. And he had learned how evil republicans are. Maybe he could put those billboards to good use and inform the population about the drawbacks of voting for GOP?

[–] Davel23@fedia.io 35 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Oh, but that would mean he would have no paying customers, and that will affect the bottom line!

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 16 points 6 days ago

i'm sure there's plenty willing to fund that message.

Your "in other words" hits hard.

I have family in a nearby rural county where the local hospital is at high risk of closing once the medicaid changes (aka cuts) take affect next year. I mentioned it to my family members, who are Trump voters, and they weren't even aware. Despite that, they did have an opinion on the matter, of course! At one point someone said something along the lines of "we can't afford to go to the hospital if something happens anyway". Which that's just a tangled mess of cognitive dissonance considering they've all been in that hospital, some multiple times, over the past 5-ish years AND they're the ones who use the emergency room as free healthcare because they know the emergency room can't turn you away if you can't pay.

The thing is, the next closest hospital takes around 30 minutes longer to drive to and these are unhealthy older people. If their local hospital closes, their next emergency may be their final emergency as a result. And I know they'll care then.

[–] happypanda@lemmy.ca 10 points 5 days ago (3 children)

No they will not care then. It will be someone else's fault.

trump voters are often low information voters

I don’t want to tell adults how to live their lives but adding immigration/citizenship to this dynamic certainly makes it seem more gross.

It's not our fault that they're on the bottom rungs when it comes to intelligence, but god damn do they make it our problem.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

So much this.

The corollary is this, though - even after something affects them, they still leave the door open to reverting back to their awfulness if they perceive someone from an out-group is benefiting.

[–] HappyCatLuvs_U@lemmy.world 21 points 6 days ago

He clearly has not accepted that in-group/out-group dynamics always leave potential for you to become part of the out-group, or to have only assumed you'd be in the in-group in the first place. Just thinks Trump messed up by taking HIS partner instead of someone else's.

"go after criminals" he continues to say, failing to realize that especially in the most heavily incarcerated country on the planet, criminals are actually also laregly moms and pops and kids with families that are torn apart by agents of state violence over incredibly minor or intentionally targeting laws.

My experience with so many people is that even when solidly proven to have held a belief they no longer find suits them, they do not look for a systematic fault in their mental processing models or a larger misunderstanding in their base assumptions of reality to find how it was they were led into false belief. They simply assume it was either a fluke, or that reality does indeed conform to their ideas and just made a mistake this time.

[–] numbermess@fedia.io 16 points 6 days ago

Augh no you're not supposed to tread on me! Tread on them!

-- dickhead

[–] tal@lemmy.today 15 points 6 days ago (1 children)

"Go after the criminals. We're all for that. But leave the mom and pops and the kids alone. Man, he's destroying families," Gannon added.

The true threat came from the childless.

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

You joke but that’s a conservative dog whistle for leftists and childless women who they absolutely do believe are evil

[–] MagicShel@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago

Eh. Childless white women are evil feminist Jezebels. But if you're a minority woman with children, they are anchor babies and you're a welfare mom.

[–] Abyssian@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Well, the going rate for a Trump Pardon is $1 million, so if he can GoFundMe that, she's laughing.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

isnt it 2-5mil, except if you have blackmail on trump.

It's a distinct possibility. But Trump's pure as the driven snow. Surely nobody would have anything to blackmail him with.

Should force that guy say "We're destroying families." Make him take responsibility. And if he wants to switch sides because this helped him develop humanity, then fine. Otherwise, burn in your hell and die enjoy what you voted for, fascist pig.
