The last movie I've watched from MCU was "Captain America: Brave New World". It was alright I guess, but my interest in marvel movies has pretty much ended with Avengers Endgame in 2019

I'll save you 300 hours: I've seen Iron Man, Antman 2, and the Chinese rings movie so I'm pretty much caught up. If I had to guess, Avengers Doomsday is about a bunch of super heroes (Iron Man, Spiderman(?), Spandex Boobs, Lightning Man, Dr. Magic etc) who have to save the universe by teaming up and beating the ultimate baddies (i.e. Dark Galactus, Mutant Man, Killbot, Planet Killer, Killstroyer etc.).

Spoiler - the good guys win, but hang around for the credits because Planet Killer....HAS A SON! 🀯 And you'll never guess which of the good guys is actually a double agent (it's Spandex Boobs) 🀯🀯

At some point someone goes: "i'm glad he's on our side."

[–] userse31@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

"Spandex Boobs" lol.

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Didnt she die like 20 movies ago? Did they resurrect her?

[–] Snort_Owl@hexbear.net 30 points 1 day ago (3 children)

catch up with what? Its like 1 sentence to summarise each movie that wasn't even worth watching to begin with.

[–] doleo@lemmy.one 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

β€œWell that just happened”

"We're gonna need a bigger [thing]."

[–] chortle_tortle@mander.xyz 8 points 1 day ago

All for a 30 second conversation with laser beam guy John Dick, in a movie that won't be worth watching either.

Here's a shitty flow chart i made. If you read this flowchart, it'll only take you 30 seconds per movie. So, in total, it should only take you 20 minutes or so.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

Only thing it is missing is them namedropping another superhero in an upcoming movie so you want to go see that one too.

Real β€œand then” hours

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmygrad.ml 31 points 1 day ago (6 children)

capitalist excess. the concept of a shared universe between massive Hollywood blockbusters is cool. Even better if you can spin it into different media types. A huge shared universe is cool!

Oh fucking woops you did it too much and now there's 300 hours of content to watch, and its all the same shit. mediocre movie with a post credits stinger. over and over again.

a restrained approach probably would have unironically stopped after the first avengers movie. they achieved their goal by then, everything after is just excess.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago

I don't even mind there being a huge elaborate web of relations and context, the real issue imo is that it's all just fucking slop and self reference and The Reddit Idea of Being Epic, meaning that the movie isn't here introducing you to a whole mythos of connected stories like it purports, it's just giving fucking homework of watching old shitty movies and and shows to get shallow references in new shitty movies and shows, and there's no real purpose to it except to make you pay more money to consume more product. It doesn't have interesting ideas or messages, it just wants you to clap when the thing explodes and action man says the line that he said 5 movies ago and also 3 movies ago.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can't believe they're still at it! If they'd taken a 15 year break, they could have cashed in n nostalgia and rewatches

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

you're 100% right, if they waited longer, the kids who watched until Avengers 1 will be "omg I loved that" and buy up whole theaters at 22 years old or something.

The first Avengers movie is when it went beyond post-credits scenes. A restrained approach had stopped at endgame. And also it wouldnt have made age of ultron, that thing was pure filler.

These movies also look like pure shit, they want to make them so quick they don't even bother with acting or VFX (compare the effects of the 1989 Batman Movie or even the 2002 Spider-Man Movie with any modern MCU movie), hell even the lore in these movies are sometimes not even close to the comics.

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

These movies also look like pure shit

No way. They're pushing CGI technology, bro.

[–] homhom9000@hexbear.net 2 points 23 hours ago

I was so confused after watching Marvel movies. Not including X men, I've only seen guardians of the galaxy vol. 1, black panther, one of the captain Americas, and the spider man that had Toby Mcguire come back. All CGI souless junk.

My favorite hero movie is Chronicle

Most of my fanfiction takes place in the same universe because..... I don't actually remember why I decided that.

Does mean my "Romance novel" happens in the same world as my Rats of NIMH, Redwall, and RWBY fanfictions. Although the latter three occur in simulations, and the "romance novel" and Redwall simulation happens hundreds of years after my author self insert character dies.

......Who needs drugs when you have autism? Now that I've written it out, this is all incredibly convoluted!

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

That’s such a good way of putting it.

Those movies aren’t an artform: they’re just…content.

[–] whisp@hexbear.net 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I watched Iron Man and never wanted to watch another MCU film.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I kind of liked the first iron man. It wasn't great or anything, but it was a fun little romp.

If it's on TV im not gonna change the channel unless there's an ad break

[–] whisp@hexbear.net 19 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I had issues with the military propaganda and the messaging in that movie, especially given the war the US was engaged in at the time.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Oh no its 100% pro us propaganda. But so are most us movies.

Do people actually like these movies? Besides children and redditors. Are these now like those Adam Sandler Movies that he makes to launder money and to hang out with his friends who have no real relevance anymore?

[–] Owl@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

I enjoyed the first wave where they had no idea what they were doing yet, so Captain America was kind of a spy movie and Thor was E.T. But Hot. Once they settled in on a formula, it became impossible to give a damn.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Honestly I think the main market for these movies is people who say "let's go to a movie" and then have no idea what's coming out so they just look at what's currently playing and they pick the thing that they figure is the most safe bet.

that's for theaters, when it's streaming slop the main market doesn't matter because people are rarely actually watching what they're streaming that's why Netflix now mandates that you restate the plot of the film multiple times to make sure people can follow along.

[–] Snort_Owl@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

I had a friend who loved them and she'd make me go see every one and I'd find ways to make myself incredibly drunk before heading into the screening.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

launder money and to hang out with his friends

I'm not a Sandler fan but I respect that grift much more than I do whatever Marvel is doing

Watching a movie? Nah, don't have the attention span.

Spend multiple hours squatting on the floor programming microcontrollers? Yes!

I've enjoyed every Marvel Movie Ive seen. I have the guardians of the galaxy movies, Thor ragnarok and the first tom Holland Spiderman. I'm not ever gonna see any more

[–] casskaydee@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

The rest of the new spider Man movies are pretty good tbh

Or I could just not do any of that, stream it off some sketchy site while I'm higher than eagle balls, and enjoy shitting all over it with friends

[–] Krinkil2705@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 day ago

I tried watching some of those new Marvel capeshit. They felt like undiluted slop. I'll return to my Chris Reeve Supes movies and DC cartoons.

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

No, I don't think I will.

[–] segfault11@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i'll just get grok to summarize it for me

[–] SchillMenaker@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

If it gives you fifteen minutes of fart noises then it will have done its job accurately

[–] Moss@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Imagine all the things you could do with three hundred hours. All the people you could meet, the skills you could learn, the places you could go.

Or sink into the slop till your thoughts stop.
