I just re-watched it and you're right. All these years of hearing it and I thought it was just anti-war but I never payed attention to the video until now.

Linger is the one that would make me more likely to cry though, Zombie has more of a dance energy
I've never heard Time in a Bottle. That was a really good tune. Ive heard the other two and they also get me going a bit.

Ive never heard Tori Amos, she sounds amazing and so does her band. I couldn't get sad cause I was i was busy being really impressed. I'll have to let that settle first for this, but I think ill check out more of her stuff. I am an encyclopedia of punk in all its diy obscure forms and aldo became a bit of a general rock history nerd. RnB related genres are something I should check lore into cause I do love what ive heard. Im too busy being impressed to get sad. But when thst passes I bet it is a huge bummer.
The second link had me weeping on the second note and I dont speak the language. That is a fucking beautiful piece of music. I wish I could get that emotionality out of instruments and voice. Damn. Literally can't listen to this without crying because it was playing while my dog was dying as I rushed him to the vet and coincidentally right after I put my dog down and had to immediately go to work right after. I can listen to the original version of the song, any other kind of cover or remix, but this specific song is tightly associated to that trauma.
From a young age I thought about going to war and what that would be like. My father was quite nationalistic and even asked me once (when I was like 10 or 12 or 13) if I would enlist in a defensive war against the USA, if I was 18. When I said yes he was as proud as I'd ever seen him. I watched band of brothers with him and my brother quite often, also from a young age, I spent a lot of time trying to get inside the minds of the soldiers there, so as to understand if I could perform in that kind of environment, and what it would take to do so.
When I hear, Green Fields of France, John McDermott, it reminds me of the fear I had as a kid watching those movies/shows, wondering if one of those soldiers might be me. Through the tragedy I saw on screen I learned to steel my heart, and this song returns me to what I encased within, the innocence I buried because that's what I thought being a man was. I've been a woman my whole life, but I didn't know then. What I did know was that manhood was something I had to perform. On some level I knew being a man wasn't inherent to me, so I constructed one inside of me.
The first time I heard this song I was riding in my Dad's car, younger than the above, and so hearing the song connects me to that time, and how scary it was when I first started to reckon with the idea of whether I'd go to war in the future.
This album, A Crow Looked at Me, is raw expression of Phil Elverum's grief following the passing of his wife Genevieve. It's the most heart-wrenching album I've heard and it spirals me into depression any time I listen.
most of these are melancholic or moody electronic tracks so not totally what you asked for but it's a good exercise to think of these tunes anyway

The Kingston Trio version of Where Have All the Flowers Gone always hits hard. It's a Pete Seeger song originally but I believe it was the Kingston Trio that tacked on the extra final verse, and I think it adds a lot

I LOVED THAT SONG! It resonated emotionally but also like...that is a damn well written song which incorporates a lot of weird shit. I gotta check out more of their stuff, cause that was sick.
