It's kind of interesting how this is a pretty common liberal viewpoint. Liberalism is the "default" and all roads lead to Liberalism. There's no understanding or desire to make things better, this is the best of all possible worlds, history has ended and you're foolish to try and make it happen again.

They love being really passionate about how they don't actually believe in anything or actively want to do anything to change the world.

The Kingdom of Conscience will be exactly as it is now. Moralists don't really have beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child's toy left on the carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded. Centrism isn't change -- not even incremental change. It is control. Over yourself and the world. Exercise it. Look up at the sky, at the dark shapes of Coalition airships hanging there. Ask yourself: is there something sinister in moralism? And then answer: no. God is in his heaven. Everything is normal on Earth.

Fascism arises due to the collapse of legitimacy in liberal institutions. That's how we got Trump. That's how we got whatever is coming next after him that is going to be even worse. Because, if you think there's not going to be more ecological and economic catastrophes in the future that liberalism is wholly unsuited to fucking deal with, and that that failure is not going to lead to fascism filling the hole, then you've got another think coming.

And that's what these guys are, these guys that marched in Charlottesville. These are the people who are aware of the unspoken premise of zombie neoliberalism we are living in, which is that we're coming at a point where there's going to be ecological catastrophe and it's going to either require mass redistribution of the ill-gotten gains of the First World, or genocide. And these guys are the first ones saying, "if that's the choice, then I choose genocide."

And they are getting everybody else ready, intellectually and emotionally, for why that's going to be OK when it happens. Why "they're not really people" when we're putting all this money into walls, drones, bombs and guns to keep 'em away, so we can watch them die with clear consciences. It's going to be because we've been loaded with the ideology that these guys are now starting to express publicly.

On the opposing side of them, you have people saying in full voice, "No, we have the resources to save everybody, to give everybody a decent and worthwhile existence. And that is what we want." And that is the real difference between these two. And you can tell that to the next asshole who tells you that they're actually two sides of the same coin.

Fuck authoritarians, but also liberalism will happen regardless of what the masses want.

The DSA are equal to fascists. Wanting healthcare is the exact same a genocide. classic

If it's inevitable they should shut up and wait

Smuglord turbolibs have the brains of nazis, they would never do that. more than once i've seen self professed neoliberals say they prefer fascism over communism but never-ever-cross-my-heart become a "right wing populist".

Liberalism's most powerful theory

[–] Juice@midwest.social 11 points 1 day ago

Regarding the resurgence of socialism, Fukuyama comments, “If you mean redistributive programmes that try to redress this big imbalance in both incomes and wealth that has emerged then, yes, I think not only can it come back, it ought to come back.”

Nice worldview. So without “authoritarianism”, how are you going to keep porky from killing everyone with climate change, eh chief?

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

maybe-later-honey "The electorate keeps voting in politicians who do nothing about climate change, so it must be the people's will that we all boil to death, and we have to respect that."

What happens when a Lib rolls around in ideology like it's a big bush of poison ivy? You get a very scratchy lib that believes all itch relief is communism.

[–] PurrLure@hexbear.net 1 points 13 hours ago

Well you know what they say about scratched liberals:

Scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds.

[–] orlando@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago

Liberalism is when america replaces a least three other valid examples of liberal countries and if social democracy isn't conservative enough then you could only be right wing, but you said the words "fuck" and "maga" in that order so you can't be that... i'm confused.
