Read:

We got new social media leadership who doesn't have time for morals

[–] Carighan@piefed.world 22 points 2 weeks ago

Yep. "We value morals, but we value money from the US gov and the MAGA crowd the most πŸ‘‰πŸ‘ˆ"

[–] XLE@piefed.social 52 points 2 weeks ago

Hey Firefox how'd you get that blue checkmark?

Oh.

not shocking considering the new ceo is an ai bro

also not shocking>? this

A cancel recurring donation box with the reason being "refuse to donate to Firefox/Mozilla while you're participating on Twitter, which only exists to spread hate and division".

[–] XLE@piefed.social 12 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

FWIW no donation money to the Mozilla org goes to Firefox development. It goes to everything else, including the AI bro projects and AI company handouts.

https://grantedai.com/news/mozilla-1-million-democracy-ai-cohort-march-deadline

i know; i originally donated to mozilla specifically because i liked their goal of turning a page against the hate and bigotry on the internet, especially with mozilla.social but they got rid of that with their latest ceos.

they don't understand that i WANT a progressive company working to build a non ai browser AND make the internet community a better place.

Yeah, Mozilla Org is the non-profit and Mozilla Corp is the for-profit that develops Firefox and gives their CEO's million dollar golden parachutes. Unfortunately these days even the org is overrun with AI bros.

That honestly suck considering they are Google's pet with the search engine agreement.

[–] XLE@piefed.social 4 points 2 weeks ago

Very much agreed. I don't think Firefox should take some high moral stance and reject Google money, but they need to develop alternative ways of getting funded, and cut irrelevant spending! That way they can actually start loosening Google's stranglehold on them

The internet is changing again

translation: it is more socially acceptable to be fash now, so we’re courting the fash now

[–] XLE@piefed.social 8 points 2 weeks ago

This is the scummy part! Their "reintroduction" reads like a dogwhistle.

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 18 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I wish they could just find a neutral wealthy benefactor so they wouldn't have to worry about pleasing people and just focus on making a better browser for all

[–] FreudianCafe@lemmy.ml 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

neutral wealthy

You can only pick one

Sadly yeah, and what I meant by that was doing things to appease a smaller number of users or things to grow their user base while they lose long time users, like adding AI features, search engine politics, all that stuff

[–] cupcakezealot@piefed.blahaj.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

that wouldn't matter since they have an ai bro as ceo who loves everything about ai.

:( why does everything have to go rotten, been using firefox since it was firebird, hate to let it go but that is bad news

all corporations either are or want to be.

[–] Carighan@piefed.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah the only reason a company is not interested in fascism is because they're jelly they're not included in the money grift. And then they only desperately want to be included.

[–] Dippy@beehaw.org 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Waterfox is an offshoot of Firefox that started from strong moral disagreements within the company

This is what I use on my phone. I'm in love with Zen for desktop though. Love what they change Firefox into sort of Arc browser before Arc went AI slop machine.

[–] WhiteRice@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago

The internet is dead, long live the internet!

[–] eleijeep@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

I'm using a fork, so fuck you very much.

[–] kungfuratte@feddit.org 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

What's a good Firefox alternative for Android?

[–] catdog@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] xxxb@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

well I do aggree, but it is a soft fork of Firefox so if Firefox dies then fennec dies as well.

[–] XLE@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Firefox won't die because its donors (Google and corporate friends) won't let it... But if it does, it'll be Google's call. Nothing you or I can do about it.

[–] xxxb@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago

well we could fork it and continue developing it. But I think neither of us want tondo that.

[–] Templa@beehaw.org 1 points 1 week ago

I personally use Ironfox

[–] eleitl@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago
