Father and husband aren't synonymous with "guy who should be alive". He argued for, signed off on, and lobbied for every war and potential war the US considered in his career. Should have died sooner.

He was incredibly consistently pro-war.
He was also pro-war-crime. He was ultra-proud of the US bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and for that matter, Tokyo.
It was his justification for letting Israel kill whoever they wanted for any reason.
