I went to open the new container of butter at work and saw that someone else got there before me. Who does this! :'( Needless to say, I smoothed it out. I'll get to see what it looks like when I'm back in on Monday.

Is anal retentive hyphenated?

[–] DragonAce@lemmy.world 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Not sure why this would be infuriating. Someone just used the butter, whats wrong with that?

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Clearly they wanted to be first and it was mildly infuriating

[–] KittensAreKittens@lemmy.today 5 points 19 hours ago

Nah, OP probably likes to scrape a thin layer of butter off the top. This softens it a bit and makes it easier to spread straight out of the fridge onto toast.

[–] Asetru@feddit.org 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who does this! :'(

Who does... what? What am I missing here? Somebody took some butter... weren't they allowed to? Was it yours and they used some without asking? I'm really lost.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 16 points 1 day ago

So the answer is you!

[–] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml 3 points 19 hours ago

This calls for a Butterian Jihad!

Have you been tested for autism and ocd?

[–] Rcklsabndn@sh.itjust.works 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Isn't being a member here pretty much a full diagnosis?

[–] __Lost__@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 hours ago

I think I've gained enough lemmy experience to earn both if those feats by now. I may have transitioned as well

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 13 points 1 day ago

on this website? never

[–] StickyDango@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nope. It's just mildly infuriating, not something I'd lose sleep over. If it started to mould because of bread crumbs in it, then I'd be more annoyed because of food wastage.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 13 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Honestly if this is "mildly infuriating" IDK how you make it through the day.

Is the infuriating part supposed to be that someone got to the butter before you? Or is it that you don't like how it was scooped? What is the "correct" way if this is "incorrect"? Genuinely curious.

[–] StickyDango@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

No, I don't mind if someone got there before me. That actually never crossed my mind!

I always thought of it this way: because the top is always exposed to air, it starts to go rancid and harden before anything else below it does. The more you dig, the more butter is exposed to air. I do not go through a tub very fast on my own.

Also, skimming layers makes it easier to spread, especially on soft breads and buns.

[–] b34k@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

Yay! Finally a post that’s mildly infuriating, instead of actually infuriating! I don’t care what the others say, you win this sub for the day in my book, OP!

[–] StickyDango@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Aww, thanks for the support! I really did toss up the idea of deleting the post within the first hour. It really was just what I thought would be a fun, light-hearted post, but there's some pretty serious comments on here.

[–] yaw@infosec.pub 7 points 1 day ago

Where is the after smoothing picture?

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (4 children)

It’s a TUB of butter… it’s one thing if it’s a free standing stick but you dig into a tub.

I also always skim off the top to keep it level. I feel you, friend.

[–] KittensAreKittens@lemmy.today 1 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Its easier to spread this way, but you'll never be able to share a butter container with other ppl.

[–] StickyDango@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Most definitely this. I share butter with others, there's no problem. 1/10 on my "infuriating" scale, it's not like I can't close the lid and have it on my mind for the rest of the day. I've got way more important things to do!

[–] StickyDango@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Like I said in another comment, I thought I'd share something I thought could be relatable to some people. I thought it was pretty innocent and I didn't realise I would ruffle so many feathers. :(

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 0 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think we're mostly fascinated to see a different perspective on things. I'm glad you shared.

[–] StickyDango@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Thank you. I'm not a stickler for a lot of things, and this butter thing was 1/10 on my "infuriating" scale, so it's pretty mild. This just got way more attention than I expected and didn't expect people to question my mental status based on a single photo/post, haha.

[–] Khanzarate@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

It's fine. All this really means is together you have generated multiple posts worthy of this sub with a single photo. Very efficient of you, I appreciate it.

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago

I'm not sure I'm understanding. It's margarine or spreadable butter in a tub. How is someone supposed to use it? If I need a could tablespoons of it, what should I do that isn't that?

[–] i_stole_ur_taco@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Just pop it in the microwave for 3 minutes and back in the fridge. It’ll be GoOd aS NeW the next morning!

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

Don't forget to clean the nuclear explosion inside the microwave after you're done.

Is this really butter or just margarine? It looks too soft for butter.

In that case, a post well done.

[–] StickyDango@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I can't remember. I'm sure it said "spreadable butter", so it'll have vegetable oils in it to make it soft.

This is the equivalent of making ski slopes in cheese

[–] Codpiece@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago

You have butter at work? And it’s shared?

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, someone forgot to add breadcrumbs there
