No this time they got it, can't you read the screenshot? It says right there.

You're right to push back. I never implemented the change, it's actually not possible so I deleted your browser instead. I noticed you haven't rebooted yet either so I've scheduled that for 30 seconds from now.

After doing this it almost completely works, every few months it still shows shorts and then I click this button again for a few more months of no shorts

[–] Hazel@piefed.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 months ago (2 children)

With uBlock Origin you can use the element picker to remove the section with shorts completely.

Never thought to try that out! I use "YouTube enhancer" for Firefox which IIRC allows you to hide Shorts, among other QoL offerings!

its definitely nice but also draws the already irredeemably slow youtube to a complete halt for me. every page takes a solid minute or more to load fully, and god forbid you open a playlist

[–] Monument@piefed.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Do they change the name of the element every so often or even dynamically, like some websites do?

[–] Hazel@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Nope, blocked it years ago and has worked ever since.

[–] Monument@piefed.world 2 points 2 months ago

Oooh. That’s excellent!

Try the wheel of a large automobile. Try a beautiful house with a beautiful wife. Try asking yourself “Well, how did I get here?”

When people talk about the dangers of TikTok and YouTube Shorts, they never mention the pleasure of it. If it didnt feel good to watch, we wouldn't do it, were not stupid.

Least were not that fucking stupid.

Youtube? I discovered of late that you can completely erase shorts from your homescreen for good. A week in and it certainly feels good being able to watch videos that are longer than 3 minutes again.

I've deleted more videos from my channel than I have showing.... Anyways I used to put a lot of time into making really useful videos. I would edit them, be thoughtful, concise, novel information. Then I crapped out a short in like 15 minutes one day, and it got 50,000 views and it's like... Really? Is this what it's come to, people can only accept information in 30 second hunks?

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

They're trained to have ridiculously short attention spans so they instantly forget the crappy shit their leaders have been up to.

[–] SuDmit@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 months ago

I mean, 1 full watch of 10 min video is equal to 20 full watch times of 30 sec short video... A large amount of people watching shorts will generate 20 times more "views" in this particular scenario.

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 2 points 2 months ago

I'm not going Nair.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

YouTube monetisation likes short shorts
