My 10 year account got banned for voicing criticism of the fascist State of Israel

What got you banned?

I quit cold turkey after the API change. No one forced me to leave.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 5 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

No, I was targeted. I would say anything eventually and it would trigger a 24 hour ban near immediately. Then I’d appeal, win the appeal, come back to say one thing and BAM suspended within the hour.

I’m pretty sure I was on some list. My comments would get thousands of upvotes. I ran economy for a fucking minute (by way of being the first to respond to propaganda posts). Every time maga would attempt their bullshit I was there in a minute to respond to it. Then these suspensions kept happening, and eventually I started getting suspensions for months old posts immediately after an appeal went through.

I know it sounds crazy but I’m telling you, this was a targeted thing and I’m not the only one.

[–] thlibos@thelemmy.club 1 points 6 hours ago

This was my experience as well. Definite targetting. Most of the bans coming after being critical of Capitalism. The Reddit incels and rightoids like to whinge that Reddit is anti-right wing and moderates those viewpoints into oblivion, but it's just cognitive dissonance or gaslighting. You can do just about anything short of direct threats or doxxing on Reddit and be just fine, as long as you don't question that which is unquestionable, i.e. Capitalism. Even inside some very socialist or left-leaning subreddits you see this.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 3 points 20 hours ago

Someone posted something like Trump should die. Not exactly those words but the gist. I replied no, he should stroke out and live, suffering in a body he can’t control.

Permaband.

[–] garbagehead@lemmy.ca 2 points 19 hours ago

Who hasn't been banned from a number of subs on reddit? It's a fascist place.

[–] wewbull@feddit.uk 3 points 21 hours ago

Not banned. Just productised.

  • Can't use the app of my choose. Must use Reddit app.
  • Can't have an anonymous account, must be tied to email.
  • Can't have a non-age verified account, must have your ID

All whilst selling data to AI training companies.

Fuck off!

[–] LimaBaos@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Got banned twice recently. First time was for using kirk as a verb and the second time for pointing out the irony of israel working with nazi sympathizers to genocide muslims.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 2 points 18 hours ago

“Kirk’d” and “Sherminating” also resulted in my bans. Quoting John Brown was my third and final.

[–] Goldholz@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 21 hours ago
[–] ptc075@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I got banned for visiting my mother. No really. I decided to log on from her house, and the anti-bot bot noticed I was using a different IP address and flagged me for being a bot. Did the little dance to confirm I'm a real person, which resulted in a permanent ban. Thanks Reddit!

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 22 hours ago

For saying that if we wanted to know if Scaphism was real we could test it out on child molesters.

No ban, it just reached a threshold of enshittification where I said "enough is enough" and left.

[–] RedditAdminsSuckIt@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I got a 7 day ban for criticizing the current administration. Then I responded with go fucj yourself to the mod team and got my ban.

Not sorry.

Reddit admins, go fuck yourselves

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 1 points 18 hours ago

Username checks out.

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Banned? No. Other way around. I banned reddit from my devices after the API fiasco.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

there is a way, but its much more convoluted. different IP/device and browser is the usual method, as long as you are not repeating the same exact pattern as before. but why spend that money anyways, the only people that do are the ones using reddit to drive traffic to thier own sites/OF agency, of whom reddit is constantly playing cat and mouse in detecting them. i also have supsicion reddit preferentially dont ban aggresively against propaganda bots as much as the ones i mentioned above.

I got banned for posting a video published by the Al Qassam Brigades to r/combatfootage

[–] ThatGuy46475@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Someone asked if a resuscitated prisoner has finished their life sentence, I said you have to be irrevocably dead, Reddit said that promoted violence.

[–] dewritoninja@pawb.social 3 points 1 day ago

I made a suicidal joke once and got a 7 day ban and the automod locked on me like the plague.

Got another 7 day ban for quoting Garfield for promoting violence,

got a 7 day ban on a post by rawdawg comics when he said he loved his boyfriend for saying "ha gay" because apparently that promotes hate.

and then the final one was on distressing memes when someone was talking about the funky town video , I was literally giving context to a person that didn't know what the video was, and only my comment got removed .

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 3 points 1 day ago

I was permabanned in Elon's post-inauguration bloodbath, after 12 years, and a million Karma.

I know it sounds like sour grapes, but Reddit had already fallen far, and it's fallen much farther since. I was checking out a thread that came up in a search, and I had to endlessly scroll through puns, novelty accounts, more puns, trolls, tangents, etc. I gave up before ever getting to anything resembling the subject I had searched. Useless.

[–] Prizefighter@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My 7 year acct is banned over an f-ing movie quote in a sub asking your favorite movie quote? I even cited and referenced to 2 MODs and even their AI said it's a quote. But since the quote "promoted violence" it was removed and now when I post on the acct it's shadow banned.

The quote came from Samuel L Jackson from the beginning of Jackie Brown when he started with "AK-47."

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I wonder if you'd have gotten the same ban for sharing a "violent" quote by the same actor from a different Tarantino film.

Or would that one have been ok if you credited it to Pete Hegseth

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 2 points 22 hours ago

One of my bans came from directly quoting the heritage foundation (successfully appealed). So no, you wouldn’t be ok.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 62 points 2 days ago (3 children)

I wasn't banned, but I rolled over after 3rd party apps were taken away on the day they stopped working. I only use the app for it so taking that away made it pretty easy to stop and no i wasnt going to use their own because they forced my hand. Apps were limited on lemmy at that time and had to wait like 4 months before the one i used to use was released, but it was worth it.

Left reddit in the api blockage

Now I spend my days shit chatting with MLs

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 7 points 2 days ago

I just stopped using it. No ban necessary.

I did get one or two temporary bans some years ago. First time was for criticizing their censorship. The second time was for sending the middle finger emoji to Spez.

I'm not going to go out of my way to delete my dead user or posts or anything. It's not my problem. Quite frankly, I just don't give a shit about their site.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 40 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Reddit didn't ban me, I banned them.

I got banned for making a comment about some hockey player needed attempted murder charges for using his skate blade to slash a rival players throat during a game. Blood spirting out all over the ice. I was banned for inciting violence. When I asked how what I said was inciting violence they perma banned me. I then came here.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Not banned but forced to use their shit app. They shut down Reddit is Fun, fuck them

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (4 children)

Getting banned on reddit was how I first learned about lemmy, but tbh I see the same kind of shit-flinging here, and I go back and forth. There's a kind of smugness here about not being like reddit, but I think it just feels different because people who would be targets on reddit get to be flingers here.

I was sitewide banned for criticizing war thunder owner Gaijin on their own subreddit by saying they are biased to make russian vehicles always perform better than other nations at the same battle rating.

As far as I understood from others it's because subreddit mods have the power to sitewide ban... For some ridiculous reason. And in this case nobody at Reddit gave a damn or dared confront someone as big as Gaijin for someone as little as me.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Reddit does seem to give subreddit mods a good deal of credit in their flags of users.

But a lot of it is dishonest, if you get traction criticizing a powerful group, they will find an unrelated reason to ban you. Because we have no rights to fair enforcement of the rules, they don't have to bother to make their accusations believable.

Israel is the main one I'm familiar with that they do this for, but all sorts of other stuff too.

After Reddit cut off api access to third-party apps, I left. Well, not right away, I did give RedReader a try for a month or so.

Nah I was part of the app/api exodus.

[–] Vanth@reddthat.com 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I didn't get banned. I left after the API change. I was already reducing use naturally, and what time I did still spend there was mostly to mod a very small niche hobby sub.

Without the mod tools I used before the API changes, plus the influx of MAGA-bots on reddit as a whole, I could longer mod the sub in a way the community asked for and that I was comfortable with. So I resigned, wished the remaining mods well, and went about my way.

There were other subs trying to go dark and impact reddit's advertising opportunities, and reddit was banning some of the mods doing that sort of thing. I decided even if reddit changed course, I was past the point I could ever come back to it.

This is not a banned users refuge.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 4 points 2 days ago

Not banned, just bored.

[–] radiofreebc@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I had a 16 year old account (from the digg migration) permabanned sitewide by a bot for using the letters "GME" together in a post in r/wallstreetbets. That's when i found this place.

I didn't get banned, I left Reddit voluntarily when they announced that they were going to be increasing censorship on their site a year or so ago.

My reasoning was, 'It's only a matter of time before I *do* get banned for something stupid, so I might as well leave this site on my own while I'm still ahead.'
