Spoilers: Install Linux. Your performance will be even better!

[–] bhamlin@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Even better, you won't need "hacks" to enable "speed."

*unless you have one of the many nvidia or intel cards that perform worse under linux

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com -4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This simply isn’t an option for large number of people.

For work computers maybe, but this is PCMR - we're probably here for gaming, and these days Linux is actually better in many ways.

[–] naeap@sopuli.xyz 8 points 3 weeks ago

Even depends on what kind of work

Besides graphic suites, where Adobe still holds strong, and some specific stubborn companies only pushing windows tools to configure some hardware, I don't see that many work related things being a problem.

Most stuff is office, mail and else often just browser based stuff

We're getting more and more into niche territory, where Linux can't keep up - and even there, it's not Linux' fault

I say, we have a golden year of the Linux desktop ahead of us!!!
And I should know, I keep telling that since 20 years ;-)

My work actually can't be done on windows :), *NIX only.

[–] de_lancre@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

My work can't be done on linux (company uses ms ecosystem on purpose, even RDP can't be connected from linux), what exactly your point?

[–] KairuByte@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 weeks ago

Fair point.

VR gaming would like a word

[–] CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Steam Frame would like a word

[–] javasux@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Steam frame has not been released yet

Point being that you can't say Linux is better for VR if you can't currently buy a headset that works well on Linux

[–] CeeBee_Eh@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I never said Linux is better. I was just countering your implication that VR on Linux doesn't work.

Well I wasn't talking to you; the comment I originally replied to literally said Linux performance is better.

the comment I originally replied to literally said Linux performance is better.

In many ways. They said "Linux is probably better now in many ways". Not all.

Well I wasn't talking to you;

Then have your conversations in private, guy.

Lol so instead of a less bloated OS, it just instantly boosts GPU frequency.

[–] warmaster@lemmy.world 29 points 3 weeks ago

Microsoft is the best thing that happened to Linux. On one side, they are one of if not THE biggest contributor and sponsor to the Linux kernel. On the other hand, they strive to make Windows 11 the shittiest OS in the world.

Thanks Microslop!

Ah right. I meant to type C

[–] MangoPenguin@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 3 weeks ago

Wow I thought maybe they had finally optimized the code better so things weren't so laggy, but no this just makes your CPU boost faster to try and run their crappy slow code lol.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

This has heavy 'download more RAM' vibes. "Checks notes" ... So they're forcing overclock on the CPU??? I guess optimizing shitty code was too big of an ask.

Catchy or Mint, zoom zoom.
