This cat person forces open one eye to half squint at 5:30AM because the orange braincell is desperately crying out for food. He caught a glimpse of the bottom of the bowl between the kibbles in there, and it was very upsetting.

[–] X@piefed.world 24 points 1 month ago

He caught a glimpse of the bottom of the bowl

You absolute monster 😭

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Damn, he's so pissed he can't even stand to look at you right now.

[–] MissesAutumnRains@lemmy.blahaj.zone 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I will always "haha, so true!" this meme until I make the mistake of going to bed slightly early or waking up slightly late and now for the next three days I'm gonna wake up to my cat hovering over my face to see if we're making another routine change or if food still happens when the alarm goes off.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My cat will actually start slapping me at 7am to wake me up and feed her. Shes extremely persistent too and will keep slapping until she gets fed. I genuinely don't even need an alarm clock because she is (usually) so punctual with it and so determined that I'm up at 7 no matter what

[–] Kertyna@feddit.nl 3 points 1 month ago

I hope you don't live in a place that observes daylight saving time.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 30 points 1 month ago (2 children)

That's a filthy lie and you know it. That cat will be singing you the song of its people well before 6am.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

She may be singing, but no one is listening. Once I'm asleep, I'm out like a light till morning.

[–] Schrolli97@programming.dev 3 points 1 month ago

Lucky you. The past few days one of my cats will start purring directly into my ear, tickling my face with his whiskers, and walking all over my chest at 4:30am, when their automatic feeder won't go off until 6am

[–] myotheraccount@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Yeah, but by 6pm you can go back to sleep

[–] Makhno@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Our dog doesn't get up until we do in the morning. He loves cuddling too much

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Same. But when my dog was a puppy I did walk him every morning before work, in a northern state, and this was literally me in the winter. But that was just one year to train him and once he grew up he became able to wait until after work. He has been chill as fuck since.

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I love my cat but he’s an asshole every morning

[–] courval@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Maybe stop feeding him early morning?

[–] CluckN@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

If you stop feeding him long enough you can sleep in every morning.

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

He’s on an automatic feeder. His zoomies are for the love of the game.

[–] SwissArmyKazoo@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

one of mine would often be lurking towards my bedroom without my consent

[–] newtraditionalists@kbin.melroy.org 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Lol no. not at all. a lot of cats go insane around 3 or 4am. Like insane zoomies and rough housing and nonsense. Dumb memes are fine if they are funny but this is dumb and not funny. Thumbs down.

[–] lordziv@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 month ago

I can't hear you over my confirmation bias lalalala

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 month ago (2 children)

All of the comments in this thread are why I have automated feeders.

Now I do not get woken up at 5am to the sound of crying that will continue for hours until food is served.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Same, especially because all the cats I've ever had have been unable to limit their feedings and get too fat if I free feed. The ones I have are hooked up to remotely switchable plugs that I automate with Home Assistant. Makes it easy to dial is food changes for my little void who is a growing pile of chaos.

[–] Schrolli97@programming.dev 3 points 1 month ago

I have automatic feeders too, but my cats will just memorize the schedule and start waking me up 1-1.5 hours earlier anyway

[–] HasturInYellow@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

My cats know that I get out of bed very quickly when they start VOMITING ON THE CARPET AND ONLY THE CARPET EVERY MORNING.

My cat starts telling me at 7 am that they need food.

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Placement of the cat is inaccurate. Mine will plop down right on my head.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

Or at least it should show the cat's butthole pointed at the sleeping face

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I’ve had dogs my entire life and never had this experience once. Own dachshunds, they’ll never go out in this weather

[–] Doom@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Try owning a husky. Every time it snows: OUTSIDE OUTSIDE OUTSIIIIIIIIDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. OUTSIDE. WE LIVE OUTSIDE NOW. NOOOOOOOOO DON'T TAKE ME BACK IN WE LIVE HEREEEEEEEEEE.

[–] keylime314@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

You'll just be cleaning up the poop indoors because the daschund will pretend to forget any house training it has. Source: have owned 3 daschunds.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

At least my dog knows not to poop inside. Litter boxes are gross.

[–] LwL@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Cats do too if they can go outside. They don't really like shitting in their own living space.

[–] winkerjadams@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Outdoor cats are a menace to local fauna

[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 2 points 1 month ago
[–] MrShankles@reddthat.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Animals are gross if you don't care to manage them... and that sentiment scales accordingly. I choose to take care of the things I love; to each their own and all that

[–] Ajen@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

I love my pets... But no matter how well I take care of them, they're still gross. Still love them, though.

[–] Yeller_king@reddthat.com 7 points 1 month ago

I have a fenced back yard and the dogs get up when I do.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

Oh hells no

Not because I don't want to, it's because my wiener doesn't want to

In weather like that, she'd be outside no more than 5 meters, and done in under 30 seconds and back inside again

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm so glad all cats I've had have been free feeding and self limiting. Makes it so much easier, just fill the bowl and they eat when they feel like it. I've known cats that that was impossible though. Mother's cats were little hoovering machines.

[–] MML@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My cats are the same, except occasionally my cat will just scream at me to watch her eat for no reason.

[–] YellowParenti@lemmy.wtf 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Hey. HEY. FUCK WHAT YOURE DOING! Im going to eat. Watch my back

You know some people walk their dog later in the day…

[–] X@piefed.world 3 points 1 month ago

shhhh… let the meme meme…

[–] SwissArmyKazoo@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I myself own a handful of 5 cats, each one more mopey than the last.

[–] lordziv@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 month ago

That is my ultimate goal in life once I have my own house! How difficult is it to take care of that many at once?

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

How about no to both and sleeping til 12:00? Ahhh that's life 😁

[–] stray@pawb.social 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't know why people don't just litter train their dogs so that they can take care of themselves during work and sleep hours. If they have nowhere to go in the house, they'll go by the door if you're lucky, or somewhere hidden so that you have to hunt around for where the smell is coming from while they writhe with guilt and anxiety. Wood pellets are your friend.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Because the smell.
Also a middle sized dog aint as compact

[–] nickiwest@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I love dogs, but this is one of the reasons why I won't have another one.

I had a cat who developed dementia at 17. At that point, she started waking me at 5 a m. daily to feed her. For her entire life before that, she had always stayed in bed until after everyone was up and about. That last 18 months reminded me a lot of having a dog.

My dogs hate the cold and heat just as much as I do. They only want to go for walks when the weather is nice.

And they're cowards most of the time, but they would fight to the death to protect our home.

Cats are good pets. Dogs are better people than humans.
