I am surprised that the subreddit for a superhero show is this on the ball.
Slop.

Well, the show did start off seeming like it was going to be more explicitly anti-capitalist before it decided that Homelander was Trump
Just like how Hunters seemed like it was going to deal with Operation Paperclip and it's consequences before they revealed that Hitler was still alive and in charge of everything and also Trump
Being explicitly anti capitalist in a TV show simply isnt going to happen. If anything g cause most TV and movie writers are themselves libs.
Ive never even heard of Hunters, but I also just dont really watch new shows for the most part. I watch stuff thats new to me but most of it is from the 20th century ish. I dont like how shows are shot now, trying too hard to be cinematic and come off like a long commercial I just find the style hard to deal with. Shots are usually super busy, dialogue never feels natural cause every moment has to be a big moment or youll look back at your phone. Shows just being shows is something I really miss. Im going through 3rd Rock from the Sun rn and im having such a good time with it. They should also make all streaming free but bring back tv style commercial breaks, then you have 5 minutes for every ten to get up and do stuff or fuck around with your phone and writers will put act structure back into shows. All of these things make it hard for me to enjoy newer shows that are good.
DS9 Bar Association was the last good episode of television

Damnation erasure.
Tho to be fair, it did get cancelled after 1 season. 😅

I dont envy you. I think there are some legit fun modern shows.
If you wanna name a few im not too opposed to check stuff out. I just want the camera to sit still and for takes to be longer than 2 seconds. I'll do an old show for each new show so we're even. I do like shows, i just wish they'd chill
I cant tell you how / what way shows are filmed and wether they are a problem for you -but. From the top of my head I heard good things about Severance, The Bear and Andor which I watched. Not tryng to be mean but I dont get your problem but I would also say I have rather simple tastes so its possible I would get it if I had more of an eye for the art of film making which I dont despite doing art.
I liked Andor a lot, I have been a cook for 20 years and I really dont wanna watch The Bear. I have heard good things about severance.
As far as taste sophistication, that doesnt really enter into it. I can just explain what I dont like cause im a film dork, it's just a preference thing where I kinda prefer when TV was treated more like a play and due to budget reasons the camera sat still, effecrs were minimum and character/dialogue had more breathing room.
Anyway, for old stuff, I just finished a Twin Peaks rewatch, if you haven't seen it, biggest recommend ever. I'm a big sci fi dork, so Babylon 5 is another giant recommendation. Been checking out Outer Limits recently as well, its kind of a lesser Twilight Zone, but its okay, check out Twilight Zone.
Thanks for the recommendations
Babylon 5 has a tough season one on first go, on a subsequent watch yku notice a LOT of subtle setups for stuff way down the line. The planning is something else
I watched the finale and tbh it was disappointing, they were so close to killing all the supes and ending the nonsense forever but noooo Huey decided the world needs a class of extremely privileged powerful people and to allow an evil corporation to keep existing
(I myself did not watch "The Boys".)
I wish this were me The whole last season was awful and I'm relieved it's done
I mean, 'normal' is subjective. If your normal is being privileged and white while 'brown' people are exploited and die then things are just as normal now as before Trump got in office, but when he's no longer there then you don't actually have to see and come to terms with that reality.
Liberalism is the privilege to close your eyes to the hell you wrought.
Liberalism is the belief that you will never be the one in the vertical video
I feel like it was kinda a nod that yeah his single minded pursuit to kill supes didn't matter cause the capitalists still win at the end of it all. There isn't a virus that kills only capitalists.
The whole season was way too many dick “jokes” and Homelander being Trump. Entertaining enough but definitely lost the plot at the end
