Those "keep politics out of x" is so ridiculously ignorant. As if self-censorship is politically neutral 🤦‍♂️ As if avoiding LGBT representation is neutral. Just wait until they discover that Star Wars is political and has always been 😂

My dad loves to say “I hate how political movies are now”, and I’m just like “How many movies have you made me sit through over the years where the main takeaway is ‘The US military and government and all of their policies are awesome and correct.’”

I mean... it's actually kind of disturbing how many there are, The green Berets, Top Gun, Transformers, Black hawk down, some grey area ones like saving private ryan and similar.

Of course, you'd get the other side of the coin with say movies like rambo, apacalypse now Born on the fourth of july etc...

Oh, you mean things that are unironically used as pro-America media by people that have 0 ability to see a political message? The same people that told RATM that they were good before they became political in 2016 (lmao)

Conservatives tend to be some mix of stupid, cruel, and willfully ignorant. You have to be or the worldview falls apart.

Keep politics out of Wolfenstein

That's so interesting. I heard in the post-red scare era a lot of left political commentators turned to sci-fi because it allowed them to commentate without being censored.

Art can defeat the state!

Some has some pretty bad ironic concepts though. Like the expanse in my opinion was a strong version of that. In watching it it really showed the capitalism hell, with the belt clearly representing some level of the working class/the global south.

To me the great irony of it though was after it got canceled, Jeff Bezos personally took towards buying the show and using amazon prime to keep it going.

What's political about gays

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

That's how /pol/ (and by extension, Bannon/Epstein/some stormfront users) were able to convince a generation of men to police the internet on their behalf. Sounds very convincing to centrists and previously apolitical people, had some success already in Hungary by the 2010s (which ended with Fidesz calling the resulting as apolitical art as humanly possible as "valueless, without any meaning"), and was the thing that ultimately convinced a generation of gamers to start a "consumer revolt" that was actually a right wing astroturf campaign.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

People just let strangers into their DMs? I don't get this.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's fun messing with them on occassion.

If you're not straight and cis? Yes.

[–] Insekticus@aussie.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Remember,

There's only two genders: male and political. There's only two races: white and political. There's only two sexualities: straight and political There's only two religions: Christian and political.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

According to that I'm 75% apolitical. My family and friends will be so relieved to hear that.

"the risk isn't worth it" lowkey sounds like a threat.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

Awesome comic, my only nitpick is the lower-left blue heart somewhat out of place (clothing patch?), otherwise very expressive for only 2 panels with faces
