They ticketed me for parking illegally but I'm rich?!?!?????!?

Aren't there townships in the US that literally survive on setting up bogus cameras and ticketing people who pass by? Doesn't some private equity company get to ticket people in chicago?

[–] Leon_Grotsky@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah Chicago Parking LLC is owned by Morgan Stanley, in 2008 they signed a 75 year lease for it.

[–] stink@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Don't the saudis get a piece of the action

[–] Leon_Grotsky@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

You are thinking of the UAE. One of the big investors is an Abu Dhabi investment fund.

[–] TrustedFeline@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago

If the bogus cameras replaced the racist cops, that would be cool. But it's just supplementary income for the racist cops.

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

The townships will control 1 mile of interstate and will ticket anyone who speeds on that one mile. Traffic tickets are internally considered as a source of revenue in most local governments. Not as a safety program.

I swear, every CHUD becomes John Antifa as soon as they’re in any context where laws bind and protect them.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 16 points 3 days ago

Everyone hates the cops once you actually have to deal with them being cops

Fox News when a foreigner commits a minor non-violent crime in America: this is a country of law and order, lock them up in a concentration camp then deport them. They should have memorized the laws of the country they're arriving in.

Fox News when they are the foreigners committing a minor non-violent crime: fined for what? Breaking a law? There's no law that says we can't break laws. If there is I couldn't read it, it's in Chinese!

The only way this could be dumber is if they said something like "I thought this was America!" while standing in the middle of Beijing

Our wholesome chungus Flock and Nest cameras and warrantless wiretapping versus their barbaric, oppressive surveillance panopticon

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Our good wholesome white law and order, their asian communist oppression

so-true Collecting data from every Ring camera in a suburban neighborhood to [redacted]

wojak-nooo Collecting data from security cameras in public places to enforce parking rules

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 25 points 3 days ago

Meanwhile, me pointing out Flock cameras to everyone in the vehicle with me as we drive around

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 25 points 3 days ago

My small town in the US has automatic ticketing using license plate scanners. This is not new or unique and was in fact pioneered by US law enforcement.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

gee thanks age verification party

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 6 points 3 days ago

“I love mass surveillance, but I would never ever ever ever EVER want to be in the panopticon myself!”

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 25 points 3 days ago

Wow, cameras everywhere! Can you imagine?!

[–] VILenin@hexbear.net 24 points 3 days ago (2 children)

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Updated the list so it's now, communism is:

  • No food
  • No money
  • No iPhone
  • Parking tickets
[–] QuillcrestFalconer@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Our glorious Flock

Their barbarous security cameras

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Okay well we’re kinda in a pickle because we let rich white men break all the rules to the point people are screaming and pleading for there to be consequences.

So by all means equate communism with the rules fucking applying. People might say “this communism stuff sounds alright.”

[–] free_casc@hexbear.net 14 points 3 days ago

So by all means equate communism with the rules fucking applying.

For a certain brand of conservative, this is what it is. Ive heard the fucking outburst when they cant hold it in anymore.

[–] asdasd201@hexbear.net 9 points 3 days ago

Parking tickets, USA: Hell yeah Lord bless our justice and democracy!!

Parking tickets, PRC: Goddamn commies taking away my freedom of breaking the law!!

[–] ZWQbpkzl@hexbear.net 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

$40 for a parking ticket is cheap. Minimum is $60 where I am.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 9 points 3 days ago

They rounded up, too. A parking fine in Beijing is like $32 USD.

[–] ConcreteHalloween@hexbear.net 10 points 3 days ago

In Communist China, you can't block fire lanes.

[–] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

[–] radio_free_asgarthr@hexbear.net 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I really don't understand the cognitive dissonance that the "small government, anti-1984" conservative can handle. Between ICE just being allowed to kill and drag people off to concentration camps, and the support of The NSA, Flock, and Palantir and the rest of the extreme surveillance state the US has. They really are just focused on "It's good when we do it, but if I am a victim it is bad. This should be just used against brown people"

[–] gayspacemarxist@hexbear.net 8 points 3 days ago

They don't need cognitive dissonance, they have white supremacy!

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Ironically i think the conservatives (fascists) and communists see more clearly here than liberals, who are caught in the contradiction of all that civic religion bullshit that just exists to obscure power relations. We can just say "it is in fact good when my faction has the power and bad when our enemies have it" and maybe I give them too much credit, but I assume right wingers just think the same, the difference being that they are wrong.

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 4 points 3 days ago

This goes against free park-it capitalism!
