/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Paris: “I’m not going to work!”

Janeway: “Have it your way.”

Man, I'm sure glad I have to go to work to keep me from thinking about all the preventable threats that have been identified by science.

Adhering to the Prime Directive costs extra.

Is she a mannequin? What's with the pole behind her?

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (4 children)

Um… why is that kinda hot?

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

Because the lady is attractive. She could be wearing a form fitting trash bag and it'd still look good

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 6 points 18 hours ago

Because she looks like a Reese's

Multiversal constant.

uniforms are sexy?

what was the point of that fucking episode? They go through the loop, and then the next scene is "on second thoughts, let's not go to that planet, it is a rather radioactive place"

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

Bootstrap paradox.

They found the planet in the state their time travel left it; Chernobyl’d.

Investigating it resulted in the time travel. The time travel resulted in the crew forcing open a rift to get them back. That rift resulted in the explosion in the first place.

So Janeway closed the rift at the last second after putting two and two together. Because the planet-wide explosion never occurred, they never time travelled in the first place.

Instead, they find a happily chugging along pre-warp civilization and just let them be.

[–] b34k@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, they’re pre-warp, right? So prime directive definitely applies.

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago (3 children)

but they decided go to the planet. Janeway didn't prevent the loop from stopping , everyone died, and the next shot is them approaching the planet and saying "nah". NOTHING CHANGED. Why would they decide to go in on one iteration, have nothing change going into the second and just bounce. What's the point the episode is trying to make??

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 4 points 15 hours ago

She did prevent the explosion, right at the end.

Except it did change. Janeway prevented the explosion. Otherwise both she and Paris would've died with it.

So there was just an ordinary pre-warp civilisation on the planet when they inspected it "again".

Nothing to see here.

[–] b34k@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

I just watched this one like a week ago. The first time they go there is because they just detected the shockwave from the explosion. Second time, there’s no explosion, they detect the civilization and say, nope don’t wanna deal with those pre-warpers.

As for the point of the episode? I dunno, felt like a time loop one that’s supposed to make you think (like cause and effect) but just so poorly executed that it was forgettable

The Federation is egalitarian so it's surprising to see them work for a Burger King 👑

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

You'd rather they work for a clown?

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

No clowns, no kings, only the benevolent rule of Mistress Wendy.
