look, if i'm effectively forced to own a car to be able to "earn" a living via wage labour, then i'm gonna immediately want the best feature set for the lowest possible price.
and that's a BYD until more chinese constructors enter the market. other EVs might do certain things better, but they're all $40k AUD more than our Atto 3. The only cheaper ones are MGs which absolutely suck eggs.
(MGs might be improving now, no idea, but at the time of looking at cars 2 years ago they were some of the lowest rater cars in australia lmao)
you're not carbrained if you hate cars, you just have to own one to fuckin survive. i could take the bus to work. it's a 1 hour bus ride or a 15 minute drive, i know which one i'll be using.

I've been on a bender with this shit. There are no Canadian car companies, there are only factories for other nations' brands that produce 95% of a car to ship to Mexico for final assembly before being shipped to Joe & Eileen Bailey. Or vice versa, idk. If BYD opened a factory (which they want to!) this would be a complete net zero. As is, it stands to weaken the automotive union (which is jam packed with the most heinous chuds outside of the oil fields) and Doug Ford specifically.
Mark Carney is a classic free market neoliberal and cutting the legs off a union is exactly his MO, but he won't be able to renege on letting Chinese cars in because Canadians are just as treat brained as Americans and long-range dirt cheap EVs packed with shiny lights will mesmerize them into wanting more.
