What is a Tankie?

Basic Rules:

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.
Brigading/Trolling — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

it's a bit of an elitist circlejerk. Not very keen on including/educating people on the tenets of communism they claim to be all about, and very confrontational. That's my experience at least. I was insulted/shunned for... literally being french, lol. While discussing imperialism. I was not defending imperialism, I might add, if there were any doubt. I'm sure there's plenty of different profiles over there, but the ones I've interacted with.... not so great
They did massive trolling a time ago which causes a lot of instances to defed from them. Hexbear is still like 80% tankies, full of snark threads and tolerates calls to violence.
They have a snark thread about this right now.
I also once asked Emopunker if Diva could be site banned from feddit.org. They said only if Diva wrote something bad on feddit or if she did something so damaging to feddit without posting there that it warranted a ban. :(

Dutch fascists tend to acknowledge the Banda genocide as a fun whoopsie moment. The genocide isn't taught in Dutch school curriculums (or at least wasn't when I attended high school), and the perpetrators are still vaguely seen as heroes of the Dutch Golden Age. So the way it plays out it can drag people in by making them feel like opposing genocide would require them to abandon national pride entirely, and they've already committed.
So yes, it can be fascist to acknowledge a genocide.
In the Russosphere, that's basically what it means. To them, the chief crime of the Third Reich isn't the Holocaust (murdering large swathes of undesirables is something they share, after all), it's that they double crossed the USSR and invaded them. "Nazi" is more synonymous with "threat to the homeland" in Russia, and that's part of why they insist Ukraine is a Nazi state.
That does explain a lot.
I myself, hating to be bogged down in semantics, actually dislike how "nazi" is applied too broadly, even if I agree with the sentiment. Most of the time, the more appropriate word is "fascist", as that is a word that can be applied broadly, whereas "nazi" is one specific type of fascist that doesn't apply as often as social media may indicate.

On the one hand, I have noticed that, over the last two or three years, a lot of liberals have started using, "tankie," as their new, "Bernie-Bro," smear. On the other hand, Lemmy has a shit-load of tankies.

It's always someone claiming to be left but who never, ever, EVER criticizes the far right. They're all fascists, they just want it in a slightly different shape, and the foil for both is the "liberals".

People do misuse the term "tankies" a lot and it is annoying. But people like diva go "no true leftist" a lot more than liberals do. I cannot fathom why they would use a political center that would put 95% of people as right wing. I guess it fulfills the classic meme of leftists' arch enemies being people who agree with 80% of their views. And everyone seems to throw around "nazi" in a way that makes it hard to take them seriously.
Anyway, I do dislike resorting to defederation outside of extreme circumstances. I don't know about sh.itjust.works, but world defederated from lemmygrad after an excess of hate speech and calls to violence, so I can accept that as justified. The fact that they are still federated with ml despite unaligned values gives credibility to that. I think hexbear was more from trolling, which I would prefer be handled by mods and individual user blocking but I can understand that at a certain point that becomes unpractical.
The poor dears. People have explained what it means, but all they see is Removed by mod.
For all we could know, IntrovertedTurtle could have been a psyop by a hexbear member stirring shit just so that people on hexbear can make comments like this. We don't support transphobia ever on here. It is usually just randos coming in here being pieces of shit.

Kind of unrelated to this post, but one time I had an argument on another platform about whether the other guy was a nazi or not. They said "I do believe in a lot of the things they believed in and think they were in the right most of the time but they were just too violent. That doesnt make me a nazi (shrug keyboard emoji)"

Yeah thats what I'm thinking too. And you know, terrible ideas have been intentionally spread online simply to get people to agree with them before. Just take a look at gamergate (gaming communities used to be some of the most inclusive and open minded online spaces before gamergate)
