I always heard "Dirty deeds in those dungarees"

[–] Patron_of_Nohbdy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago (2 children)

For me, it was "Dirty deeds done with sheep" / "Dirty deeds and they're done with sheep"

[–] Gerblat@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That is an actual parody song though

[–] Patron_of_Nohbdy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

In Dutch, we call it "Mama Appelsap" ("Mommy Apple Juice"), after the Rihanna song Don't Stop The Music, in which the bridge (which is apparently sampled from Michael Jackson who took it from Manu Dibango, TIL) sounds like that rather than ma-ma-ko-ssa.

[–] Sidyctism2@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 2 months ago

These threads are always filled with the same lyrics so let me add a new one:

My friend heard the first verse of Thunderstruck as "I was cold in the middle of the ringer of time"

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I got a new one for you: until I was in my late 20s I thought the song was Caribou Queen instead of Caribbean Queen.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

It totally sounds like caribou.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] Quilotoa@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

HIlarious. I think by him saying it, your brain atunes to the words.

A mondegreen that I’ve been trying to get fixed for a while now:

In “Little Melancholy” by Tessa Rose Jackson, it’s written:

Call me conflicted, call me undone I've been in rough water more than a monster Older now I've learned everyone bleeds A little broken, little melancholy

https://genius.com/Tessa-rose-jackson-and-ffm-little-melancholy-lyrics

And I’m absolutely positive the song is actually

Call me conflicted, call me undone I've been in rough water more than once Still holding on, I've learned everyone bleeds A little broken, little melancholy

The bathroom.... Is on the right.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Just like the "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme" in Scarborough Fair. There are older versions where this verse ends in "...married in time" (I don't remember the rest). Someone propagated this song when music was primarily an oral tradition, and the erroneous version spread more than the correct one.
