It was also on Cartoon Network in the 90's and Boomerang in the early 2000's.

Oof. That movie was a hard watch when I was a kid. I added it to my collection recently, thinking that I was too young to appreciate it, but I still haven't been able to finish watching it.

i went with friends to watch it in the second run theater back in the day. we did bad movie nights all the time and would make fun of them like mst3k and it was great. no one else was in the theater so we got to play mystery science theater in a real theater! it was great! we even brought a pizza and had ditched school, it was wonderful.

the movie was so bad we ran out of stuff to make fun of (like, we had to start repeating stuff to make fun of) after 45 minutes so we started playing tag. we had another hour of that theater being ours and we were going to use it.

Did you know that you can rent a theater? Back when I did it, it was relatively affordable: about $200 for 2.5 hours. I went with a small group of friends and we played Halo

it is very, very tempting but i'd rather sink the money on getting a better home theater.

great for a medium group of friends though, as long as they don't mind me bringing in a cuban buffet (the shack i wanted to buy for my own and turn into an ice creamery, it is now a cuban restaurant i will make them cater)

Lemmy user base is older than i expected

[–] veroxii@aussie.zone 23 points 1 month ago (6 children)

I think a big chunk of us are gen X. We used BBS forums, Usenet, then slashdot. Then it went mainstream. Move to digg. Move to Reddit. It keeps getting ruined. Now we're here but I guess at some point we'll migrate again. Nothing is permanent.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago (13 children)

Hey now some of us are older Gen Z. But I grew up around a lot of old tech so I'm weirdly more similar to millennials and Gen X in some regards on that front.

You should move to piefed next

[–] bajabound@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one. I took pretty much the same path. Can't forget many thousands of hours spent on IRC.

This was before my time. But there is a pretty wide range of users here, I’ve noticed.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago

Gen X local bar.

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Have you ever seen the movie they made in like 2000? It's interesting to say the least.

[–] WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

No! I’ll have to put it on the list.

Even old farts can use new tech.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

new tech is more user friendly than old tech, so i don't see why not

I think I saw a Rocky and Bullwinkle pinball Machine at an arcade in my metro area (Surrey Central City Fun Park)

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (4 children)

She still has a heavy ~~Russian~~ Slovenian accent/intonation despite many years living in America, and her voice is reminiscent of Natasha, one of the villains from Rocky and Bullwinkle who along with Boris were stereotypical Russian caricatures created for a cartoon that aired during the cold war.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.org 12 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Slovenian. Slovenia was not only never part of Russia, the Soviet Union but not even the East Block. It was part of Yugoslavia which was block free. It's a beautiful country, doing fairly well too and they got rid of Melania which is a plus.

Slovenian might be also the most distant Slavic language to Russian, it is Slavic though of course.

I'm actually rather astonished that her accent is so heavy and her diction is so stilted, after living in the US for 30 years. It's as if she doesn't have to speak to anyone in English. She also seems to have trouble pronouncing words correctly, even when they are written for her.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

She has no friends

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

For years, her and Barron spent most of their time with her parents, also illegal immigrants, and they all spoke Serbian. Word was that when Barron started school, he could barely speak English, and he spoke it with a Slavic accent.

Hey? If you don’t have any friends or you don’t have anything to say, how do you get to know how to speak foreign language?
