She still has a heavy ~~Russian~~ Slovenian accent/intonation despite many years living in America, and her voice is reminiscent of Natasha, one of the villains from Rocky and Bullwinkle who along with Boris were stereotypical Russian caricatures created for a cartoon that aired during the cold war.

Slovenian. Slovenia was not only never part of Russia, the Soviet Union but not even the East Block. It was part of Yugoslavia which was block free. It's a beautiful country, doing fairly well too and they got rid of Melania which is a plus.

Slovenian might be also the most distant Slavic language to Russian, it is Slavic though of course.

xenophobes don't have time for details like that

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We don't hate her because she foreign, we hate her because she's Eva Braun.

[–] nsrxn@mstdn.social -4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

so stop being a xenophobe and stick to substantive issues

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It's not because she's foreign, we like foreigners. She's getting shit because she's a goldigging MAGA whore, at best. At worst, shes a pedophile Russian intelligence agent, working with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

All of that is fair game for vicious, relentless bullying, and anyone supporting her deserves the same treatment.

bully away

leave the xenophobia for fascists

I'm actually rather astonished that her accent is so heavy and her diction is so stilted, after living in the US for 30 years. It's as if she doesn't have to speak to anyone in English. She also seems to have trouble pronouncing words correctly, even when they are written for her.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

She has no friends

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

For years, her and Barron spent most of their time with her parents, also illegal immigrants, and they all spoke Serbian. Word was that when Barron started school, he could barely speak English, and he spoke it with a Slavic accent.

They speak the Slavonian dialect of Serbo-Croatian.

Hey? If you don’t have any friends or you don’t have anything to say, how do you get to know how to speak foreign language?

[–] gramie@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I already speak English, French, German, Sesotho and Japanese. Do they count? I have also taught ESL and married a Japanese woman. I know something about accents and fluency.

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean you. I meant that mail-order wife.

[–] gramie@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 weeks ago

Ah, okay.

It probably doesn't help that the last person she wants to talk to is her husband.

Ah, thank you, comrade! Now I understand infectious disease of American imperialist culture better, spasiba.
