It was also on Cartoon Network in the 90's and Boomerang in the early 2000's.

Oof. That movie was a hard watch when I was a kid. I added it to my collection recently, thinking that I was too young to appreciate it, but I still haven't been able to finish watching it.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i went with friends to watch it in the second run theater back in the day. we did bad movie nights all the time and would make fun of them like mst3k and it was great. no one else was in the theater so we got to play mystery science theater in a real theater! it was great! we even brought a pizza and had ditched school, it was wonderful.

the movie was so bad we ran out of stuff to make fun of (like, we had to start repeating stuff to make fun of) after 45 minutes so we started playing tag. we had another hour of that theater being ours and we were going to use it.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Did you know that you can rent a theater? Back when I did it, it was relatively affordable: about $200 for 2.5 hours. I went with a small group of friends and we played Halo

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

it is very, very tempting but i'd rather sink the money on getting a better home theater.

great for a medium group of friends though, as long as they don't mind me bringing in a cuban buffet (the shack i wanted to buy for my own and turn into an ice creamery, it is now a cuban restaurant i will make them cater)

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah, I rented the theater for my best friend's bachelor party. But a nice home theater setup is so amazing. The living room at my house is smaller than what I had at my apartment, but that just means that the TV is larger in comparison, and the 5.1 surround sound that I upgraded from a used Sony to a used Yamaha fills the room that much more.

Lemmy user base is older than i expected

[–] veroxii@aussie.zone 23 points 1 month ago (5 children)

I think a big chunk of us are gen X. We used BBS forums, Usenet, then slashdot. Then it went mainstream. Move to digg. Move to Reddit. It keeps getting ruined. Now we're here but I guess at some point we'll migrate again. Nothing is permanent.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Hey now some of us are older Gen Z. But I grew up around a lot of old tech so I'm weirdly more similar to millennials and Gen X in some regards on that front.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

next time you see your parents give them a hug for raising you right

also the tv. the tv doesn't get enough hugs and i'm sure it's sad.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I was raised by my grandmother, my biological fathers a rapist (I know from experience) and my mother is fucking crazy due to untreated bipolar disorder. Also yes TVs don't get enough appreciation.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

apologies, hug your grandmother. and your tv.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ya couldn't have known and I can only hug my TV. My grandmother ain't dead, just driving to Idaho.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

idaho? she might as well be dead i got family in burley and boise. that drive suuuucks and it's wet today. give her my love too.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

She's going up towards Elk Bend. Also she's leaving from San Bernardino California so she has a couple days for shit to dry up.

Also yeah Idaho while beautiful also kinda just sucks, luckily unlike Utah it can be salvaged pretty easily.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i'm trying to think where my favorite places to eat are along that drive. i'm thinking 15 to 84 is better than 5 to 84 and all the places i like are on 5. there's a taco place called Rosie's over in Yucaipa worth popping off onto Yucaipa Blvd and getting off the freeway for a few minutes if it's mealtime, but that might be a little early in her drive.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I live in Yucaipa with my grandmother, she loves Rosie's. Personally more of a Bravo/Redlands burger type of guy, though I do have to drive down to Redlands for that.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I'm up by the bay area/sacramento but we make the drive down to phoenix to visit family every so often, and we had some friends in yucaipa so rosies was a frequent stop. is redlands burger the place with the good zucchini fries?

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No clue about the zucchini fries since zucchini texture doesn't agree with me. But it's got good breakfast burritos and burgers, it's across the street from a postal facility.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

i will have to check it out the next time we drive through. about a decade back we were visiting our friends in yucaipa for their wedding and after the wedding we went with a bunch of our friends from home (we lived in Davis, CA at the time) to find munchies. it was only 8 when the reception wound down and we were looking for someplace open near UofR. It was shockingly quiet for a college town at 8PM. All I remember is finding a place with zucchini fries that, like the fries were almost a foot long. I kind of want to eat them again. Unfortunately the frier at the local zucchini fries place gives me the squits (which i'm sure you wanted to know), so i really have to want zucchini fries if i'm going to eat theirs because i can't get the breading to stick right when i fry them myself.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah that sounds like Bravo burger. It's only a couple minutes away from the university once you get on the south side of the freeway. Like I will drive by the university to avoid highway 38/lagonia traffic bullshit, when I crave beavo burrito.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

well hey i'll let you know next time i swing down that way. i mean you'd have to be crazy to want to grab tacos with me, but my wife's pretty cool

[–] bajabound@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one. I took pretty much the same path. Can't forget many thousands of hours spent on IRC.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 3 points 1 month ago

You should move to piefed next

[–] Machinist@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I'll give you a pity upvote. There you go buddy.

I hang out on FARK btw, we should hang!

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

gen X. We used BBS forums, Usenet, then slashdot.

Yeah it's weird but I get that exact feeling here sometimes. Some shit I get away with here would fly in the 90's maybe early 00's but def not on the mainstream socials. I found myself both pleasantly and worriedly surprised.

It keeps getting ruined. Now we’re here but I guess at some point we’ll migrate again. Nothing is permanent.

We are the trailblazing swarm of locusts.

[–] WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

This was before my time. But there is a pretty wide range of users here, I’ve noticed.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago

Gen X local bar.

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Have you ever seen the movie they made in like 2000? It's interesting to say the least.

[–] WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

No! I’ll have to put it on the list.

[–] WhyIHateTheInternet@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

They actually filmed that in the town I live. I still haven't bothered to watch it though.

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Even old farts can use new tech.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

new tech is more user friendly than old tech, so i don't see why not

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

WHY IS MY LEMMY BLINKING 12:00

[–] Zier@fedia.io 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's the signal to insert the Betamax cassette.

[–] smuuthbrane@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I DON'T LIKE BETAMAX I LISTEN TO STEELY DAN

[–] Zier@fedia.io 1 points 1 month ago

Steely Dan was the best porn star I ever dated, Rock Hard Ron was the second.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

IT KEEPS SCREAMING PC LOAD LETTER. I BURNED MY LAST PRINTER WHAT THE HELLS

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago

But old tech was mesmerizing, luring you in like the song of a siren or some shit.

[–] RedIce25@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I think I remember seeing the live action movie when I was a kid, and that's the only reference I have of the characters

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I am so glad I missed this 60's reference. That means I'm young!

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It is also not really a reference that is widely known outside of the US (or North America).

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

I think I saw a Rocky and Bullwinkle pinball Machine at an arcade in my metro area (Surrey Central City Fun Park)
