President Donald Trump's overhaul of US refugee policies has created a major shift in the number and nationalities of people admitted to the country, US government data shows.

Since October 2025, 4,499 refugees were resettled in the US, according to the Refugee Processing Center. All, except three from Afghanistan, were South African.

In the last full fiscal year of the Biden administration, which started in October 2023, 125,000 people were accepted from 85 countries.

Last year, Trump halted all refugee admissions, including for applicants from warzones, but allowed Afrikaners, a white minority group he said was persecuted, to seek resettlement. South Africa objected to his characterisation.

And white

Don't forget that they were white

[–] DahGangalang@infosec.pub 4 points 1 week ago

Is that to include the Afghani?

[–] disorderly@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

Well yeah, because of the active genocide against white Afrikaners.

Conversely, there's nothing of interest going on in Afghanistan and the US has no obligations to any sympathizers or collaborators there, so I'm not sure why we're letting 3 people flood our country.

Edit: this is sarcasm. Can't believe I need to say it.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 28 points 1 week ago (2 children)

People can't tell it's sarcasm because every day we encounter people who would say exactly these stupid things in earnest.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The fact that most of the link is coming from things the president of the United States has said and done? And he still maintains an approval rating around 33%? Yeah, about a third of the US voting population would 100% say things like this without sarcasm, because they’re just parroting Dear Leader.

America has a 40% approval rating for Israel's actions in Gaza. That is an astonishing number of people in favor of genocide.

[–] joostjakob@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

33%? Does that refer to a single poll? Now that Gallup has bent the knee, I follow the aggregated results at https://www.natesilver.net/p/trump-approval-ratings-nate-silver-bulletin , where he is still close to 40%. But I'll take any hopium I can get!

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Because these are things that real people say wholeheartedly

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Edit: this is sarcasm. Can't believe I need to say it.

Even here there are some who would say it without any sarcasm, so yes, it needs to be said. Or better indicated. Quotes around "active genocide" with the same article link would probably make it more obvious.

I expected it to be sarcasm and still re-read to make sure.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Even here

Really? Did I just manage to block all of the actual cons on lemmy? Can you link a couple GOP or MAGA accounts just so I can see where the chuds hang out on the fediverse? I know about maga place but I think there are only like 3 of them over there circlejerking

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Just came across one I tagged but hadn't blocked, take a peek at doingthestuff on lemy.lol, you'll find a fan of Charlie Kirk that claims the gas prices from Trumps latest mishap in Iran are somehow lower than they were under Obama.

Ive found a few on lemy.lol, so thats probably a good starting point.

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Ah yeah, think I've run across that instance before. That account seems like some kind of libertarian weirdo in denial.

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 2 points 1 week ago

Ive blocked them, so maybe you did too. There's some really hard right to be found at random. Who knows, maybe just trolls.

[–] theherk@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Strange to link the words “active genocide” to an article that reads,

Claims of white genocide in South Africa have been entirely discredited

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

I can't say for sure, but I think they were being sarcastic on the internet without using /s

[–] stephen01king@piefed.zip 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can't believe there are still people that thinks sarcasm can be easily read through text without an indicator.

[–] spacesatan@leminal.space 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

"nothing interesting going on in Afghanistan"

"no obligation to any sympathizers or collaborators there"

"letting 3 people flood our country"

Touch some grass if you're so used to strawmen that this isn't immediately obvious as sarcasm.

[–] stephen01king@piefed.zip 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

You do realize many people don't generally read every comment in detail, especially ones they saw as right wing rethoric because of your first sentence? It's not like there is much to gain from reading such a comment properly.

Your first mistake is that the first sentence was too convincing, making any hints later that isn't a literal sarcasm indicator completely useless to a lot of people. A joke is all about the delivery, and a good comedian adjusts their delivery to their audience. By the way you react to people, I can tell you have trouble with both of those.

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You do realize many people don't generally read every comment in detail

That sounds like a them problem. Really. If they can't read a comment that freaking short before jumping ship then don't interact with it at all.

By the way you react to people, I can tell you have trouble with both of those.

It's a different user. I'm a third different user. Maybe read the whole thing before criticizing so strongly??

[–] stephen01king@piefed.zip 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It is, but the same people that refuses to use the sarcasm indicator are the same ones that complains when people miss their sarcasm. I always say there is a non-zero chance people will miss the tone when reading text, so don't complain when people do when you refuse to use the sarcasm indicator. If you're gonna complain about it, it is now a your problem, as well.

It's a different user. I'm a third different user. Maybe read the whole thing before criticizing so strongly??

You're right. I should have gone back to the original comment and read the username before replying. I'm surprised how many different people are reacting so defensively for a joke comment they didn't make.

[–] sem@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

The /s indicator is standard for a reason. All these jokers giving you crap act like they've never heard of Poes law.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

Linking a Wikipedia page as a source that basically says Trump believes this and started a program is hilarious.

[–] jasoman@lemmy.world -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So you are also saying we needed to stop the genocide in Gaza as welll then?

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemmy.zip 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Every accusation is an admission.

Removing all the brown people, bringing in all the white people. They want a Great Replacement.

[–] zd9@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

People need to just... literally listen to the words that the technofascists are saying. Musk, Andreeson, Yarvin, etc. have no qualms about saying everything out loud.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’m willing to bet these South African apartheid Nazis will be hired by ICE. I’m willing to bet that that was the plan the entire time.

[–] backalleycoyote@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago

I’ve been a volunteer with refugee resettlement for years (still doing it because to leave now would hurt our on-going services to real refugees). From what I’ve seen, these are less ICE recruits and more in-line with the replacement theory” ideas. They’re trying to abuse the funds and infrastructure set aside to help deserving refugees and bolster their influx of the “right” kinds of people. And to an extent, it does work. If we didn’t help their refugees, we’d lose funding and support; if we quit in protest the people who came here earlier and are still settling would lose their support.

Most of the ones I’ve met seem more like someone you’d see holding a sign behind Trump at a rally than hardcore Proud Boy. They seem middle class, average education, entitled, resentful, and like they don’t actually need the help of our resettlement program. Most refugees come in with nothing; most of these folks have plenty.

And while it’s a sad statement on society, don’t discount the hate and bigotry of the homegrown MAGAts. They’ve hated refugees for years because they think they get a free ride into what they were born to (or worked hard to get). The whiteness is not an automatic “welcome” even if the politics match. They’re almost as hateful towards any immigrant regardless of color. I overheard one refugee upset because a MAGAt called her a “white n*word”. Welcome to America, land of hate.

[–] przemyslawowo@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 week ago

They are shoring up their white supremacy ranks lol

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Is it wrong for me to say I don't want these people here?

[–] Wataba@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Not at all. You're rejecting the recruitment of Nazi thugs. Be proud of that.

[–] Zahille7@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I literally came here to comment something along the lines "go back to your fucking country"

[–] stylusmobilus@aussie.zone 2 points 1 week ago

No and you don’t either. They add nothing to your culture and bring nothing you don’t have. It’s all crappy religious songs and prejudice.

[–] qevlarr@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

125,000 asylum seekers admitted down to 4,500. That's people admitted, i.e. so-called real refugees who have been found to need and deserve our help. Down to only helping white Afrikaners. Outrageous. Letting innocent immigrants to rot. Wipes his large ass with "bring me your huddled masses"

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

All white too huh?

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 9 points 1 week ago

I bet none of those were bleck.

[–] finallymadeanaccount@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What colour South Africans?

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ever seen a flashbang go off?

Only in my pants. Why? What does that have to do with it?

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Who wants to emigrate exactly there? I couldn't think of one solid reason.

[–] 0_o7@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

White people who have a thing for exploiting people while acting like victims of great-white-displacement.

[–] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

But even whites need some millions to survive in that dystopian shit hole. I have more money than I would ever need but would feel too poor to emigrate there...

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

I'm not kidding when I say that my cousin wasn't aware of the immigration crackdown in the US before migrating there with his then partner. My cousin was a sailor and probably either missed plenty of international news, or only focuses on our home country's news, because of his constant travelling.
