I shit you not, the central hook of the plot is a death star trench run to bomb a yellow cake facility in Iran's mountains. As you could imagine it's epic and Tom "Xenu" Cruise pulls it off effortlessly...but then! He gets shot down, and is forced to hijack an F-14 to fly home (getting gun kills on the way back).

Yeah, and one of the main premises is that ChinaRussiaIran has more advanced planes, but because Tom Cruise and the other 'Mericans are so good and heroic, that doesn't matter. Granted, they're flying F-18s (and later an F-14 which actually beats them) which were dated when the movie was filmed and even more so because it was postponed due to COVID, but it's still ridiculous that the premise is that the US is a smol bean underdog.

It still makes absolutely no sense why they had to use the f18s. I know the entire point was to make up a reason to replicate some of independence day but absolutely none it makes sense.

Because top gun is about navy pilots, and the main navy fighter when it was filmed is mainly the F-18. Just like in the first top gun movie they fly F-14s because that was the main navy fighter at the time. It has nothing to do with independence day at all.

I know, it's just they wanted to do cool stunts. I just hate the reasoning they came up with

It's honestly a pretty good comedy in its blatant propaganda, it's like a cartoon version of a war movie

Ok now I'm interested in watching it.

It's not worth it. Unless you want to watch them make up a reason for Tom Cruise to make g force faces

Man I unironically miss rehab day trips in the druggy buggy.

My last time in rehab we saw Across the Universe in a dollar theater on Christmas Day lol.
