Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

If it turns out kirk was a false flag that'd honestly be so fucking funny because literally no one ever truly gave a shit about him and those that pretended to already stopped pretending. Like they'd have just offed this stupid nazi kid for nothing.

[–] anotherspinelessdem@lemmy.ml 47 points 1 month ago (6 children)

Seriously, not even his fucking wife could pretend to give a shit about him

[–] Kefla@hexbear.net 48 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I still subscribe the the theory that she fucking hated him for reasons we'll probably never know. Was he a nightmare to interact with on a personal level? Likely. Did he refuse to wipe his ass after shitting? Who's to say? Either way there's gotta be some reason she didn't even pretend to be sad that her husband was publicly murdered in cold blood.

I have a hard time imagining either of them loving each other let alone tolerating each other. Their marriage has to have been some sort of arranged thing.

I believe Kirk's assassination was the continuation of the Trump's "failed assassination. " It was another message to Trump from an opposing clique of the govt.

It's full on tinfoil hat, but it could be an attempt at manufacturing a Horst Wessel.

If that's the case the perpetrators might have thought his maga semi-celebrity status would have helped making martyrdom more easily reachable, only for that to spectacularly backfire because of his semi-celebrity status

But his defense attorneys now argue that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives 'was unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied to Mr Robinson.'

"Unable to identify" is quite a bit different from "does not match." Think fingerprints: "we can't make out what was recovered from the scene" is different from "we can make out what was recovered, and it isn't the suspect's fingerprint."

There may also be different levels of certainly in these types of analyses, and this is just arguing that less than 100% certain means "unable to identify."

But Kirk's widow, Erika Kirk, has called for full transparency in coverage of the trial, saying: 'We deserve to have cameras in there'.

Damn, she really does just want to maximize her TV time.

[–] microfiche@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago (8 children)

She wants to spectate her murdered husbands alleged killers trial to capture an audience.

Is she selling a book yet? Or crosses, or healing crystals? What's the grift.

[–] lil_tank@hexbear.net 27 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Erika Kirk's husband's death has been the best thing happening in her life. If I was the police I'd certainly investigate the possibility of her paying a hitman lol

i need a cop show about a guy who's a big candace owens fan and keeps looking into the kirk assassination because he thinks it was isntrael and instead he uncovers that it was erika

Is she selling a book yet?

She started promoting a book immediately, and it was about honoring the sabbath.

[–] microfiche@hexbear.net 10 points 1 month ago

Charlie walked so Erika could run

They're dumping petty stuff on the defense, eating up all their time and resources, while holding back the main evidence. They'll present the main evidence at the prelim hearing on April 17. That gives the defense a little over two weeks to get through 20,000 files and prepare for the actual ballistics and DNA evidence given during the hearing. It's a weird thing to do if your case is as airtight as this should be.

Oh, hey, look at this:

https://www.sltrib.com/news/2026/03/30/washington-county-sheriff-nate/

Washington County Sheriff Nate Brooksby resigned and announced his retirement on Friday, ending an over 30-year career in law enforcement, according to the Washington County Attorney’s Office. Brooksby’s resignation comes after the county received complaints “from individuals who were concerned with operations at the sheriff’s office,” Deputy County Attorney Courtney Sinagra told The Tribune.

I'm gonna guess someone fucked up, likely because of political pressure from above, and the main evidence is now messed up. They're trying to ratfuck the defense and get away with only using sad tweets to convict.

Lol if he and Luigi walk it's going to be open season on shit birds.

As it should be, that's the Free Market at work. If these MAGAs want to keep amping up the violent, racist rhetoric, and abuse and exploit citizens, they can expect that the market will evolve to match them, and if it goes far enough, the solution to the MAGA problem will become violent.

The Health Care CEO received his market correction because he had pushed his Sociopathic policies so far it spawned a customer so angry, they decided to do something drastic about it. As a result, his company backed off of those policies, and people started receiving treatment that had been previously refused. Even better, OTHER companies loosened their policies as well. It's a PERFECT example of the Free Market at work.

Recently, we heard about the CEO of Five Guys giving their employees a small bonus, because a poorly conceived sales promotion made life really difficult for employees, and apparently he got death threats from his own workers. He responded the only way a Sociopathic Oligarch can - by throwing money at it. Eh, it's a start.

Now that MAGA is seeing actual Free Market responses to their behavior, the smart ones are starting to back off.

Keep up the pressure, make them FEAR for their very lives.

pepe-silvia i'm telling ya it was erika

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

And I'm tellin' ya Charles Entertainment Kirk was an animatronic rat used to distract children, drunks, and drunk children from the subpar conditions that surrounds them. You can't kill him because he was never alive, he was just a mouthpiece with an oversized head and vaguely human face created for a corporation.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 14 points 1 month ago

Maybe Erika was Mossad all along.

The bullet flew around the world ever since grazing Trump in the ear, waiting for it's chance.

The claim in the headline doesn't seem to be the same claim his defense attorneys are actually making. From literally this same article:

But his defense attorneys now argue that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives 'was unable to identify the bullet recovered at autopsy to the rifle allegedly tied to Mr Robinson.'

"They can't prove it matched" and "it didn't match" aren't the same thing at all. The stuff that matches a fired bullet to a specific gun barrel, like trying to line up the striations on the bullet with the rifling, is prone to error and differences in investigator judgment (remember they're working with a bullet that has already been deformed by hitting something). (And I have very little confidence in it; I have, in previous comments, referred to it as "tea leaf reading.") But to prove it wasn't fired from a specific barrel, you'd need a (pardon the pun) smoking gun: wrong caliber, rifled in the wrong direction, something like that. If they had that, they'd call it out instead of making the weaker "unable to identify" claim.

Kent is a removedwho came out of nowhere to tell MAGA what they wanted to hear. Obvious controlled opposition. They'll position him to run in 2028 and take full control, like under GW Bush who was head of the CIA.

What a shitty dad of Tyler to also turn him in, if it turns out he had nothing to do with Kirk getting Kirked

[–] hollowmines@hexbear.net 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This story really brings out the "need to touch grass" demographic across all political lines.

I think anyone at the event had a reason to murder Charlie Kirk, I mean just look at him. Non of them is beyond suspicion.

Its so sad that society doesnt care about the spinbot sniper epidemic

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 11 points 1 month ago

Anyone remember the writing on the bullets? Lmao susie-laugh

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 10 points 1 month ago

All this really means it that the bullet was so malformed, it couldn't be matched to the rifle. It's not that it doesn't match the rifle, and matches some other unknown weapon, it won't match ANYTHING, it's too mangled.
