There is already a discussion about Undertale and Deltarune translations over here, from just a few hours before this post. Let's keep all our thoughts in one place so that we aren't talking over one another.

I mean I don't know a fandom who isn't annoying. Once you get to any fandom level then it's all parasocial level bullshit where favorite blorbo can do no wrong. And any critcism to thing is a personal attack.
I've seen smaller communities that are mostly fine, but I never seen one that is this level of annoying.
Idk there is really something about Undertale that brings out the greasiest of gamers.
I'm in the middle of a Deltarune playthough right now, just finished Chapter 2 for the second time, I love these games, but damn do some people act weird about them and about Toby.
Im a RWBY fandom veteran, and where I developed the rule to never go in to deep.
I’m a big fan of Undertale/Deltarune and I find those subreddits to be unbearable. Idk why they’re like that; I’ve been in some annoying fandoms before but those subreddits truly take the cake
Yeah, I absolutely love Undertale, and I'm playing Deltarune right now, but these fandoms are so unbearable over this. I don't really look much in there other than the ocasional post that reaches my timeline, which is usually either shitposting or people talking about the next chapter which I don't even read because I'm not up-to-date with Deltarune yet, so my perception was that it was like most other communities, but I get now why so many people hate them lol, when they latch onto a topic they are annoying as fuck.
TOBY FOX⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️

sadly the western chauvinism it too strong in most fanbases becuase of the dominance of anglo speakers, even if they are "progressive"
Not familiar with the current drama, but the game already got an official japanese translation. So I understand people thinking that "I don't want to work with a translation team because my artistic vision" is a shitty excuse on Toby Fox's part, because it is.
In fairness, Toby only did the Japanese translation because he himself is fluent in Japanese, so he could directly check the localization team's work.
Without the ability to do that, then his perfectionism gets in the way - he'd kinda just have to trust the output and the interpretation of the localiztion team without being able to hands-on read and modify it himself, which he did do for the Japanese localization.
You can take from that what you will, but it was a more detailed answer on his part than simply 'because my artistic vision'.
That's fine, but he could still work directly with the translation team if localization integrity is so important to him, otherwise his games are only ever gonna have english and japanese localization.
otherwise his games are only ever gonna have english and japanese localization.
Tbh I don't understand why that's a major problem. There's tons of media that is only available in Spanish, or in French, or in Chinese, or whatever. Some stuff you've gotta know the language it's available in to enjoy it. It'll be ok if people who don't speak English or Japanese don't play Toby Fox's games. There are a million JRPGs out there.
I've experienced bad localisations before. Never has it crossed my mind to be mad about imperfect localisations.
