He probably still believed that the lady who sued McDonald's over getting burned by hot coffee was just shaking down McDonald's for easy money.

Everyone who makes fun of her should have to review the pictures and reassess.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 14 points 8 hours ago

I'd would have said should try pouring boiling hot coffee in their crotch but reviewing the pictures might work as well.

Every time that story comes up now the top comment in reply is someone correcting them that the story is BS. I'm to the point now I think people stills spreading it know it's BS they just like the image of a selfish liturgical lady.

Some of it is sexism or misanthrope, but some of it I think is the willful misinformation spread by corporate entities that want to discredit tort laws or whatever

willful misinformation spread by corporate entities that want to discredit tort laws

Yeah but if you KNOW THAT yeah still spread it what does that say about you? It's like the anarchists who have been informed that Radio Free Asia is LITERALLY OWNED by the State Department but cite it as a legit source anyway. At a certain point are you really being "duped" by propaganda anymore or are you playing along because you already agreed with what the propaganda says.

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 2 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, a lot of propaganda isn't really about someone truly believing a lie but having "licensure" to repeat it because repeating it is normal. Some people really are misinformed, though of course being completely incurious about looking up details even just to better understand this thing you believe is its own problem.

It's now over 30 years ago and liberal media is still omitting important details in the regular retellings.

Good grief.

I once bit into a large chunk of plastic that somehow got in some fast-food that I was eating, but I never considered contacting a lawyer. In fact, when I returned days later I explicitly told the manager that I did not want him to fire anybody; I just wanted them to be more careful. Customer service and the manager both gave me discounts, and that was the end of that.

Is it praxis to file frivolous lawsuits against restaurant chains

[–] v_krishna@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 hours ago

I don't think I'd call los tacos #1 a chain. They have like 7 locations but all in NYC all same owners, and honestly quite cheap and delicious. As a Californian who goes to New York relatively often for work I definitely approve. Also the German guy is weak their hot sauce is delicious.

I know some real nutjob commies who seem to think tying up courts is a good way to waste the resources of a tyrannical government, so who knows.

I guess it's situational. Awaiting trial isn't always better than even getting convicted. Blocking evictions or stuff like that seems like a clear W. And corporations have their private courts with binding arbitration so it doesn't necessarily effect them as much if the courts are bogged down.

[–] alexei_1917@hexbear.net 2 points 4 hours ago

If you can waste government time and protect the working class from immediate harm, by all means, tying up shit like evictions in a courtroom is absolutely a productive use of time and energy. Using a legal system that usually punches down on the poor to do the opposite rocks when it works, and even buying time is, as you put it, a clear W.
