If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP

He's gonna count to three

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 2 points 15 hours ago

Is trump threatening all of this because he brutally raped those girls? You call that presidential?

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't think that's how you get someone to cooperate voluntarily.

Nevertheless, I thought Pete Hegseth said the Strait is open already save for a totally minor obstacle to safe shipping, that Trump or anyone shouldn't worry about.

[–] zbyte64@awful.systems 6 points 1 day ago

Technically it is open if you're paying in Chinese Yuan 😂

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Iran: fuck off pedo.

[–] madde@feddit.org 22 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Trumps approval rating still sits at 40 % (https://www.economist.com/interactive/trump-approval-tracker).

Something's seriously wrong with your people, USA...

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (7 children)

brainrot through social media / smartphones, coupled with propaganda.

We have the brainrot already in Europe - if our propaganda were as strong, we'd be just as bad, sadly.

[–] tristynalxander@mander.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

We spent decades destroying our education system and you didn't even mention it, do our efforts mean nothing to you?

Yep we know. Please send help. Heavily armed help.

Sadly, the world isn’t going to so anything about it. The World has more or less greenlit Israel’s genocide. If anything the world is going to run and support the US in reopening the Strait to allow the flow of oil.

The oil must flow.

[–] TheReturnOfPEB@reddthat.com 79 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I hope that people are starting to understand why war powers shouldn't be hogged by one dipshit.

[–] cecinestpasunbot@lemmy.ml 21 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Don’t forget congress is complicit too. They choosing to let this happen.

[–] echo@lemmy.today 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They're not even beginning to understand. They still think we're winning. :(

[–] CorrectAlias@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Saw that diesel in my area hit $6.99 a gallon. Is this winning?

I suppose it can feel that way if you're an EV owner and don't rely on Diesel (or dirtier versions of diesel) to heat your house.

Of course, in my semi-rural area, a bunch of the MAGA voters drive huge, lifted diesel trucks that burn as inefficiently as possible (so that they can roll coal on Priuses and bikers) and also have 1950's oil furnaces that basically burn dirty diesel. I wonder how long they'll keep lying to themselves about winning.

Electricity prices will be going up too.

As a US citizen I wonder if this is how 1930s Germans felt?

Well except a large portion of us feel the orange shit gibbon is a moron, surrounded by sycophantic morons and kakistocrats.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 2 points 15 hours ago

The idea that Hitler was some sort of genius supervillain is a myth mostly propagated by movies and video games. It’s a shame, because I think this notion made it more difficult for many people to understand what trump was as he was clawing at power.

In reality, Hitler was an incompetent moron, and the similarities with trump are uncanny.

[–] M0oP0o@mander.xyz 14 points 1 day ago

And a large portion of Germans also felt that hitler was a moron, surrounded by sycophantic morons and kakistocrats.

Actualt as the nazi party never won the majority of seats the us is actually more complainant to the current regime.

[–] Bieren@lemmy.today 10 points 1 day ago

Is this winding down the war?

[–] TwinTitans@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

Oh! More terrorism. Great job.

[–] Archangel1313@lemmy.ca 46 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yup...more war crimes. That seems to be the only tool in his toolbox.

This is a stated intent to destroy, or set in motion events that will destroy, much of the oil and power infrastructure in several countries .

I really hope this is only a manipulation of the markets , because otherwise things will never be the same.

Americans have a duty to make this not happen

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 28 points 2 days ago (4 children)

American voted for this to happen. And remain at 40% approval of the guy.

Under 32% of Americans voted for this to happen.

Most Americans didn't give enough of a shit to vote at all. It's really fucking bad here. This society has been sick for my entire existence, and the toxicity of it is vastly understated. People are miserable here, and stressed too the point of self-preservation as a norm.

[–] cecinestpasunbot@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I don’t think Americans ever got a choice in the matter. Trump ran as an anti war candidate, about a third of Trump supporters do not support this war, and the majority of Americans are opposed to it.

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (4 children)

None of that matters. The fact is that obese orange thing still got elected by the direct or indirect actions of voting for, or 'protesting' by not voting at all.

Even if you take away all the paedophilia 'accusations' ;-);-), and the bankruptcies and corruption etc etc etc and then solely go with what that fat cunt did during the first term then that should be enough for any intelligent person to not vote for that thing again. But no, that's just too much for the rest of the fucking world to ask for!!

I don't give a shit what the average american is opposed to when the rest of the world have to also suffer the consequences of electing in a dementia riddled, warmongering, tyrannical old twat with the temperament and bowel habits of a tantrumming toddler.

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

Even if you take away all the paedophilia ‘accusations’

At this point you can just say "the fact that he's a pedophile"

"Americans have a duty to make this not happen."

What does this even mean? Shall I go throw molotov cocktails at my local California city hall - a city hall full of people that oppose what Trump is doing?

People need to understand that the United States of America is the third largest country by landmass in the world. We have massive protests here, and a huge one is going to happen next weekend... But it won't force Trump to do, or refrain from doing, anything on the world stage.

Our government is completely captured by a single party that is both very stupid, and very evil. We have a way out of this in November, but only if the GOP doesn't successfully upend democracy in that election.

Until then, the grand majority of Americans that want this to end are in the same boat as any and all foreigners that want it to end. Our "power" is only available in election cycles.

The next election is predicted to be a blood bath for Trump, too. He's the most unpopular president in living memory right now.

Great. Were gonna save iran juat like we saved gaza! Cuba next!

Happy yet, sitouts?

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.zip 14 points 1 day ago

Fucking USA wars. Would he make such a big war, and threaten them with nuclear obliteration, if they weren't on the other side of the globe? No. Cowards.

And yes, many Iranian power plants are nuclear. Nice of you to not mention that, asshole potus.

Of course the fallout would still be bad - not only for US "allies" in Europe but also in the US. But realizing that would require some mental effort so it doesn't count.

So I have a crackpot theory.....

The Mueller tweet and now this, I'm starting to actually believe this isn't Trump at all, and this is a team conspiring to 25th him and give them an out of the Iran situation.

Like "ok, we admit it he's gone nuts, so whoopsie and Iran don't worry we will make this right so let's just settle down now"

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 21 points 2 days ago (8 children)

I think this is Trump. He hears the footsteps coming, so he's getting desperate, and doing anything he can to stop the inevitable.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Great. A demented, desperate octogenarian criminal piece of shit human with his thumb on the nuclear trigger. Good job all you asshole voters!

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He could try what Adolf did when the walls were closing in on him. That might be the only thing he could do this week to boost his approval numbers.

[–] psycho_driver@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

He would absolutely launch the nukes before doing what you're suggesting.

I'm not sure if he's really thought this one through.

Doesn't look like he's left himself a lot of wiggle room to back down.

I don't think Iran is going to comply.

edit: I kinda wonder why Iran isn't pushing a lot harder to manipulate public opinion. Fake photos of petrol prices. Rumours of fuel shortages. Rumours about the Trump family profiting somehow. Rumours that Bibi was going to release unredacted Epstein Kompromat. Plans to draft people for war in Iran. Even the dems could be doing this really.

[–] Cherry@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago

It does not need to be fake photos. The financial cost is real, a trump is blatant about his family corruption.

Even if there was a media campaign the USA is a controlled media, so it wouldn’t be shown, if it did people would either forgive it because USA is always a winner attitude or they would disassociate blame AI etc.

You had citizens being shot and that was not enough to provoke a turn around.

I kinda wonder why Iran isn't pushing a lot harder to manipulate public opinion.

They do. I have seen public statements by Iranian officials, and even memes (mostly AI), here on lemmy.

But they're mostly in Parsi and Arabic, since that's the audience they care about. Iran is trying to end the US threat against them, which probably means removing US bases in the Middle East and getting the Gulf powers on their side. So they don't talk about rising fuel prices, they talk about Palestine, the massacre of the schoolgirls, and freedom in general.
