Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

A message to the President of the United States: The outcome of war cannot be determined by tweets. The results of war are determined in the field — the very place where you and your forces do not dare to approach. It’s better to name this operation ‘Epic Fear’ instead of ‘Epic Fury.

If they called it operation epic fail I would consider converting to Islam

if Iran sinks an aircraft carrier I will unhesitatingly recite the shahada and add that Ali is the rightful successor of Mohammed

He's too stupid to even know when he's being lampooned

Yes, and probably too stupid to know when he’s being baited as well.

Just when you think America can't fall any lower and they get mocked by Iran, what a joke this country has become.

[–] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 14 points 16 hours ago

You know the country started with genocide and slavery, right?

Your takeaway from this whole conflict should be that Iran is far more rational and restrained than Israel or US. US assassinated the leader of their country. US blew up an elementary school, killing 160 children. US started the war with Iran this year. Israel started the '12 day war' with Iran last year. Israel assassinated the Gaza negotiator Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran in 2024. Trump assassinated Iranian Military Leader Qasem Soleimani in 2020. Trump ended the JCPOA Iran denuclearization agreement in 2018 on behalf of Israel.

Iran has been taking abuse from the US for the last decade and responding with restraint. US is the aggressor. Iran is the victim.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 8 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

America was, has and will be the aggressor no matter where they go and only leave chaos behind them under the pretence of "democracy", you only listed Iran, there are so many more places where they brought "democracy" since 1945 that we could be here for days trying to list them all and nothing would change.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 14 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Funny how they never try to bring democracy to any of the gulf monarchies.

[–] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Is this foreshadowing? If the US got their way, why wouldn't the mad dog rouge state in the middle east start encroaching on the monarchies? It would be one of those "being an ally of the US is lethal" moments

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 2 points 6 hours ago

Sure, maybe one day, but my point is that they don't give a shit about democracy or autocracy

[–] axont@hexbear.net 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

yeah we just got mocked by the country that told us to fuck off in 1979 because we rigged their elections in 1954 so we could steal more of their oil

yeah i wonder why they hate us so much, it must be solely because of Trump

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 1 points 15 hours ago

not disagreeing but i think we (decent people with the misfortune of residence or citizenship) should stop using the collective for the US government does since it doesn't represent us and only occasionally represents average people by accident

Yes, and probably too stupid to know when he’s being baited as well.
