Once I submitted a leave request months in advance and it didn’t get signed until the day after I left. The day before when I was leaving the office they were making a big deal of the fact it wasn’t signed and I hit them with “it’d be nice if I still have a job when I come back” and left.

It’s not like I was going to cancel all of the booking because they didn’t do their job.

A colleague is leaving the job at the end of the month and our vacation booking system said she had 16 vacation days left, so she booked those at the end of the month, her supervisor approved, she handed over all her tasks, returned the hardware and everything, and thought she was done working here.

On her first day off, the supervisor calls her to let her know that she can't actually take that many vacation days. Because she quit in the first quarter of the year, she only gets a quarter of the vacation days for the year, which the vacation booking system did not account for and well, the supervisor had not noticed while approving either.

Like, it's kind of just how the contract and laws and everything works. I don't know, if the supervisor offered to convert it to unpaid leave, but that's kind of the only real thing, they could've done here. But yeah, still just such a dumb situation after all...

This happened with my friend who booked a ski trip. They told him he had to cancel this trip. He went anyways and handed in his resignation.

Then they had to hire him as a contractor at a really high rate. True geniuses there.

When put my vacation time in I always write "this is a notification, not a request" in the notes.

[–] Diurnambule@jlai.lu 1 points 5 hours ago

Don't have to write it that normal.

[–] PhatalFlaw@lemmy.world 23 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Vacation permission? That's just vacation notification, I'm not going to be there.

[–] MissJinx@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

had.something similar happening to me (mind you vacation days are mandatory in my coutry) and when my boss said "this date is not.good for the team" I just said "oh that's too bad, guess I won't get paid this month then" He got the message.

“The fight attendant just told me that the Pilot doesn’t see that as an adequate reason to return to the airport.”

[–] FreshLight@sh.itjust.works 5 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I see. So the fight or flight response is also present in attendants

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Hahaha, I didn’t see that.

These managers must never buy airplane tickets with their own money. I don't know which days I'm flying until I see the prices, and then I need to buy the tickets immediately to lock in those prices and seats.

Even if I were to ask permission (which I'm not), it would have to be for a general range, not specific days.

I have 100% called in sick from another state just as my friends and I were about to get on a gondola to go up to the top of a mountain.

I was on the phone saying I felt terrible when “NEXT CAR ARRIVING” or something similar blared over a loudspeaker.

“What was that?” they asked. “Oh, just the tv. fake cough

[–] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 1 points 8 hours ago

Very important to master that mute button.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

I've done similar prior to the days of company-issued phones and company messaging platforms. These days, calling in sick is just a teams/slack/whatever message to my lead; no need to sound sick anymore!

[–] yeehawboy@lemmy.world 16 points 19 hours ago

P - Prepare T - The O - Others

Because I won’t be there!

Sorry, as an executive of a major company I may have misheard you but did you say "replace half the team with an LLM and then make those remaining pick up the slack"?

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

LLMs don’t take vacation and tell me no.

They don’t do their job effectively, but they don’t say no!

Damnit! I was supposed to visit Phuket for the first time next month.

A Thai friend has strongly recommended against it due to issues connected to the Iran bullshit.

[–] mr_account@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago

Phuket, we ball

Is it "in another continent" or "on another continent" or are both fine?

[–] Agrivar@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

I think it depends on how intimate you're getting with said continent. Wink wink nudge nudge.

[–] CombatWombat@feddit.online 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It’s tough to say definitively because there are a bunch of dialects, but in mine (west coast USA), “on another continent” is correct and “in another continent” sounds a little off.

[–] C8r9VwDUTeY3ZufQRYvq@sopuli.xyz 2 points 14 hours ago

In Australia, it's the opposite. I read "in another continent" the same way I read "in another country". i.e. within the borders of another country/continent. I don't hear people talking about being on another continent/country.

Language is both bullshit and fascinating 😁

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

that's some bullshit English has, come on, for fucks sake, it's the same thing!!!

I'm standing on a continent, but also in it's boundaries. English as a language has a lot of BS, and this shit is hard for people's who learned English as a second language.
