I've heard so many mentions of this Spotify wrap thing today and it's the first time I've ever heard of it. I mean, I know I'm out of touch, but why after getting away with never knowing about it for what seems to have been a long time am I suddenly inescapably confronted with it?

They usually do it around the end of November or beginning of December, so a lot of people are just receiving theirs and sharing them now.

It's one of those things people will talk about for a week and then completely forget about until next time. I honestly think it's fun to see everybody's results.

Is there any specific instance where us lemmings are sharing our wrapped lists? I think that would be fun

A week?! I've sent a screenshot to my friends, I recieved a couple screenshots. Now it's over. The whole thing couldn't have taken more than a couple hours, netto it's only a couple minutes.

As one of the few holdouts for using any streaming service I still rely on a local library and tied to last.fm. They do the same thing for probably the last 10 years now and I love it. It's nice to see what I've discovered and loved for the year. I do not share it though, no social media either.

I'm moving back to a local library as well, with Navidrome for streaming to my devices when I'm away... Unfortunately I lost access to my old last.fm account, I had to make a new one.

Been using Navidrome for the past year and loving it. Subsonic was my goto but with no updates in years I wanted something more modern. That paired with Symfonium app is perfect. Just remember they just updated navidrome a few weeks ago and the next update if you want last.fm access you have to use your own api key sadly.

Can you please explain the joke? Is the point just a wordplay on “being played”?

[-] DrMango@lemmy.world 8 points 7 months ago

Yes. With a dash of "big corpo bad" for good measure, I think
