"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

It is worse.
Information technology relies on using abstract symbols, like words or numbers. These are a product of evolution out of human language - the thing that ultimately makes us humans. Without language, we would not be able to organize collectively the way we do.
Words are essentially means for communicating what is in my mind to your mind. Words have a meaning. While we do have other means for communication and expression, like dance, music or art, words are what makes it possible to communicate thought.
For language, words, numbers, science to work, it is important that we keep the relationship between words and their meaning.
This is socially enforced: Nobody likes a liar.
This is also how our society works. Numbers on an banknote are not just numbers, they have a meaning. Fake the banknote and it has no value. The same can happen to words.
For AI systems and certain sociopathic people, words are just means to persuade humans to do what they want. They are not interested in a concept such as truth.
Maybe with all the social media bullshit platforms being flooded with more bullshit, people will turn to more traditional, trustworthy news and good journalism? Maybe? Please? who am I kidding...
Got a time machine? Haha.. yeah that would be ideal, but while all the focus was online, traditional media were all bought up and mega merged, so it becomes a task to find an unbiased source, which is by design of course, but yeah.
