Documenting hate speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse. Memes are welcome!

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of biased source)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether it be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.

Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users, as it handwaves their extremism.

Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in arguments that lack mutual agreement.

Brigading/Trolling — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from maliciously voting, commenting, or manipulating the post in any way. This includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be banned. Good-faith and honest communication is an exception.

Tankies can explain their views, but may be criticised or challenged for them. Any minor infraction of the rules may result in a warning and possibly a temporary ban.

You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically last only 24 hours, but each subsequent infraction doubles the duration. Depending on the content, the ban time may be increased. You may request an unban at any time.

Tankies: "Americans stop being cowards shoot your politicians 😡"

Also Tankies: "Nooooo you cannot revolt against the CCP.... 😭, you must go through proper channels 🥺"

Which one is it? 🤔

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Kill my enemies, leave my allies alone" isn't really a hypocritical take. It's an ideation of war, and these people are at war with the West, in their heads at least.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 2 days ago

Easy solution would be for them to realize the world is a sphere and everything is actually East of everything else if you travel far enough. 😌

You can only murder the people I don't like!

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

To be fair... People in China can afford a house and put food on the table. Maybe authoritarianism isn't necessarily the problem here

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

China has both a government issue and a culture issue.

People in China can afford a house?

Yea I mean I guess you are technically a homeowner if you count your ancestral home in your parent's hometowns...

So if you wanna stay there... you have to work the farms... manually, no john deree machines (or whatever Americans have), most people in China (at least back in the day) did not have machines to help with farming.

Its very tough, there are parasitic worms that will bite you and suck your blood... at night there are bugs that will latch get into your house and try to get in your mouth and it one such bug nearly suffocated my mom in the middle of the night (or something like that... my mom told me about waking uo in the middle of the night and there was some insect/worm or some shit) and then I'd wouldn't be born just hearing about it give me the heebee jeebies

In the cities is where people go to get better jobs, then you have no Hukou so if you have kids... they can't even go to public school there.

My parents were lucky enough to buy an apartment in Guangzhou... so yes... but you'd be naieve to assume everyone could... there were a lot of apartment units being bought up and leased out... some people have to rent those apartments to stay in the city and work their jobs... and they are still technically count home owners because they have an ancestral home back in their hometowns (where their Hukou is)...

And the apartent my parents used to own was in a very dirty looking slummy part of Guangzhou near the foot of a mountain... sooo much mosquitos and bugs even in the "city" because it really is near the edge of a wild forest essentially... like the Kensington, Philadelphia of Guangzhou... or the Favelas (in terms of how it looks like)...

My current house (that my parents own) in Philadelphia looks wayy nicer...

Honestly that apartment in Guangzhou was the most slummist place I ever lived in...

Maybe if you are privileged enough, you get to live in the nice parts of the city... but not us.

You have to understand, this is not because of "China Bad" attitude, my dad told me firsthand how local officials would over-report how much food they've grown to make themselves look better... you can't trust the stats... they aren't gonna count migrant workers in their stats so of course it boosts how good the stats look... because they have a whole class of second-class residents that are oppressed and unseen...

(Yes I do realize how similar this is to the US's situation with exploitation of undocumented immigrants)

And it's not disability friendly at all...

You have to work overtime to afford living...

1.5x overtime pay is non-existent in China unlike the jobs my parents have had in the US (it's unionized... your results may vary)... I mean China doesn't even allow independent unions and strike action is illegal...

No OHSA... no safety regulations... (most laws regarding safety aren't even enforced, if it even exist)

TLDR: China is pretty much a “差不多。。。 没办法。。。🤷‍♂️” type of place

(hope this is coherent, I'm dealing with anxiety rn so it's hard to get my thoughts together)

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

My girlfriend gets 2x overtime pay and 3x pay when working holidays.... Still trying to figure this country out. I saw the manual farm workers, I have seen that from the windows of a train. This place is so peculiar and interesting

The same can be said of America's culturally in groups.

Unfortunately, thanks to authoritarian control of the media, it's hard to tell exactly how many labour camps filled with "totally not homeless" people are propping up China's economy.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How do you know these camps even exist...

[–] Glide@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago

The documentation on how China "solved" homelessness exists, mostly thanks to previous citizens that left.

Unfortunately, reliable modern information is scarce, because that's what you get with an authoritarian regime obsessed with information control and social engineering.

Abstinence isn't the best course. However passively voting in fascist collaborators is even worse

Abstinence isn’t the best course. However passively voting in fascist collaborators is even worse

... how so.

... how is our current situation worse than it would be if we voted in Harris.

Situations can be horrific without being equally horrific; and picking the moral purity of what you filled in on a goddamn secret ballot over the lives of literal millions of human beings is not moral at all

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world -1 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Voting in Harris or any democrats is wasting revolutionary energy; energy that could be spent elsewhere doing real organising. It doesn't matter who has the presidency. The democrats are only the moderate wing of the fascist republican party, so them having the presidency is tantamount to republican leadership, just more moderate.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

mate drop the larp. you have the perfect time for revolution now, but none of you are doing shit and you will never do this revolution™

So hurry up and throw your larpy revolution now, or suck it up and admit that the democrats are your best option. you have either trump or democrats, those are your main options. Or you can leave the shithole US for a better country.

yanks are weak-willed and will never revolt. stop pretending you're a revolutionary in waiting.

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 0 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'm not a yank, don't know why you're using 2nd person. Secondly, the conditions for revolution in America are non-existent. The working class is fragmented across a variety of things, most notably cultural issues. Thirdly, i myself am skeptical of a first-world socialist revolution and believe revolution in the third world to be the most expedient issue.

The democrats are not the best option. Time and time I've battled this idea in this community. The democrats continuously swing further and further to the right. What's the evidence for this? Their unwaning drive to shirk everything to the left of them, no matter how moderate (see Mamdani and Sanders 2016).

What then is the best solution for America? Well that would have to be decided by the Americans, but if i had to give an opinion, it would be to organise within a third party (the green party). America is still in love with electoralism, so the next best step is to get people the fuck out of the democratic party and into a party that actually has a shot of moving left. This party isn't the end though, just the means; to serve as a promotion ground for genuine revolutionary leftism.

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

if you're not a yank why are you whining about their democrats and republicians? leave the yanks to their shithole

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Because yank politics is the most prevalent political discourse on the fediverse

[–] goat@sh.itjust.works 0 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

then from an outside perspective, you must realise that yanks only have two options for their government.

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

At present yes. If you read what i wrote you'll see that they can create a third

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 1 points 19 hours ago

Voting in Harris or any democrats is wasting revolutionary energy; energy that could be spent elsewhere doing real organising.

Yes, I'm sure the whole 20 minutes used to fill out a ballot is just destroying the will of The People to Do Revolution.

It doesn’t matter who has the presidency.

How many dead Iranians are you telling that to? How many folk in the developing world?

Great job on being a useful idiots for fascists. Practice your sieg heil a little more, and they might even accept you as a genuine beefsteak

The democrats are only the moderate wing of the fascist republican party, so them having the presidency is tantamount to republican leadership, just more moderate.

You're absolutely right, we've been getting more fascist with every election since Abraham Lincoln. /s

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Which is why we need to go to primaries, or even better make our own third party in places were we don't have a green or similar.

[–] aaa999@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

you're missing the main criticism of this guy, which is: better candidates only win primaries for seats when the seat is already D+30... therefore making a seat D+30 increases the chances of a decent candidate... meaning withholding your vote from the Ds to encourage decent candidates is actual sabotage

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

meaning withholding your vote from the Ds to encourage decent candidates is actual sabotage

That is only true if you vote. Particularly in primaries. The MLs are apathetic to actually doing so; as such they are disregarded. They need to show up and vote a suitable third party. Or spoil their ballot so that they show up as a countable protest vote that would sway such districts.

Simple abstinence is not only getting out of the way for fascism; it is indistinguishable from apathy and the apolitical. I am not missing the point from Grammar or the MLs.

Part of my criticism of the MLs is also that they are just unwilling to put at least a minimum level of work here. It can help us get some policies that we may want. It also helps build credibility for higher level protests and strikes. If you can get people to show up to vote you can also get some of them to realistically show up for other civil disobedience. That is a credible movement. Voting in the west is rather easy and carries little personal risk; compared to protests and strikes. If you cannot get your organization to do that then its safe to assume they won't do much in other aspects of resistance; particularly those that carry personal harm.
