It is a pile as soon as one grain of sand is resting solely on top of one or more grains of sand.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 9 points 3 days ago (2 children)

why, what's wrong with null piles?

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There are just piles of sand literally everywhere? An infinite number of them in every tiny void?

[–] huf@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeah, and also piles of bananas and louis the XXXIIV era rugs.

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

ok, I guess. how can a pile of bananas and a pile of rugs be in the same place though?

[–] huf@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

as long as they're null piles, yes.

How many piles of zero sand can one possess?

Zero. If a pile has zero sand, it's not a pile.

Do you see the inherent contradiction of calling the lack of sand a pile?

[–] huf@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

infinite. it doesnt matter, because they're empty. empty piles abound!
