Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. 5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The persistent 1/4-1/3 of Americans who prove themselves to be traitors to humanity time and time again.

It sucks that I'm always part of a majority.

You mean to tell me, in an Election Year, it would be the BEST Political Move for Congress to use their Constitutional Powers to bring WORLD PEACE? Wow! Let's do the Opposite!

-Congress ESPECIALLY Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries!

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah so they both might be pieces of shit, but without 2/3rds support they cant stop anything. So they would need 75 Republicans in the house and 19 Republican senators to go against Trump.

The media machines are rolling, and Republicans are already starting to fall in line. They don't care about the hipocrasy of claiming their leader was a dictator and treats women badly, nor do they care that the nuclear weapon creation shit is lies. They would invade Afghanistan and Iraq again tomorrow to double down on their commitment to hating people who are different looking.

The Democrats don't have the numbers to change anything here.

Democrats do messed up stuff? Democrats fault. Republicans do messed up stuff? Democrats fault.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Given that Democrats delayed voting on a war powers resolution last week, it is their fault yes.

I rest my case

Let's see how this goes before gloating.
Obviously Trump is insane, and congress failed to stop him by waiting to interfere when it was obviously imminent, until it was too late.
Media propaganda is very likely to turn the tide on public opinion, that's what happened with Geoge Bush when he invaded Iraq.
People who opposed it were called all sorts of names, like anti American, against the troops, and stuff like that.
Then it turned to an overwhelming majority supported the war. Despite no weapons of mass destruction were ever found, and that was the basis for the invasion.

Monday is going to be interesting in the context of the federal legislature. It’s kind of a make or break moment. I am fairly sure that part of the reason for the timing of this shit was so that they’d have maximum time over the weekend to fuck around without Congress interfering. I’m honestly mildly surprised the orange regime didn’t wait for a recess.

100%

That's how it always is early on, then the propaganda machine gets in gear, and Americans turn in favor of the war.
This time there are Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and obviously Xitter, all controlled by the 1%, and they are already filtering content to support the attack on Iran. That alone is a massive propaganda machine. And most Americans eat it raw with no critical thinking.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also, Americans will decide whether they supported the war based on how well it goes after the fact. So if Trump bombs the hell out of Iran and kills a lot of Iranians and then whisks his military away before much damage can be done to it, that'll look like a "win" and people love to be on the "winning side."

Years later as the inevitable long-term fallout continues unfolding, they'll declare that they never wanted to invade ~~Afghanistan~~ ~~Iraq~~ Iran in the first place, of course.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No doubt the American military is capable of impressive force. And they will more likely than not completely dominate Iran. Israeli intelligence has often also proven very effective, so I don't give Iran many chances against that combo.
But the problem is whether Israel/USA can actually cause a regime change without boots on the ground? If not, it will have to be considered a failure. No matter how much they destroy Iranian nuclear capability.

[–] chahn.chris@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

“Eat it raw” makes me wonder what the well prepared artisanal propaganda might look like…

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Seems like a lot. Is that a weird metric?

[–] teawrecks@sopuli.xyz 2 points 18 hours ago

The number of die-hard MAGA supporters is not much lower than that.

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 5 points 23 hours ago

Have you met Americans?

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 17 hours ago

The "Don't Know / Skipped" is lower than I expected!

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is lead poisoning so prevalent in the US? 25% supports it!

[–] TheDemonBuer@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

1 in 4 Americans support this shit because it allows them to live out their own Punisher fantasies vicariously through the US military and State Department.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And those 1 in 4 are probably unreachable.

[–] Clasm@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

I was going to say, "Probably can't read," but I'm changing my answer to, "Definitely can't find Iran on a map."
