Healthcare workers should not be cooperating with ICE.

Immigration status should make no difference to healthcare.

Wells, 69, said he notified HBO about the episode because of its parent company’s impending multibillion-dollar merger.

Saying the quiet part out loud there...

“The thing we have to be careful about when we’re talking about any of these issues,” Wells said, “is to make certain that we’re actually presenting both points of view, because we’re not really in the business of preaching to the choir on this show.”

Sure, show both the perspective of victims of fascism, and perpetrators of fascism.

Excuse me, but why is it that they have to show “both points of view”? They can say whatever the hell they want.

[–] Corngood@lemmy.ml 11 points 5 days ago

Yeah that's true. My point was just that you can show the fascist point of view without glorifying or excusing it.

They must... THEY MUST. Just like how in Game of Thrones they had that one storyline that made you truly sympathize and understand Joffrey Baratheon's motivations. It really brought all of that show together showing him in a positive and supportive light.

It‘s like saying you can‘t make a game about killing Nazis without making Wehrmacht soldiers playable too. What a sick joke.

The point I was trying to make is that they don't really want balance in the sense of showing things from the Nazi's point of view.

What they really want is the Nazi's views to be treated as valid.

In this case specifically I imagine it's like: we don't mind if you talk about ICE as long as you're also talking about the good things they do.

God dammit! No, Wells. You complicit fuck.

You don't have to show both points of view when one is about intentionally harming and intimidating the country under the guise of dealing with immigration. You don't need to give their point of view the implicit agreement that it's a point of view that deserves to be shown or accepted.

“Depict them as literal Gestapo agents? Okay.”

The Pitt has been pretty even handed, ICE so fragile

You gotta do the Team America: World Police thing. After the MPAA nitpicked all the rude jokes in South Park: Bigger Longer And Uncut - a movie for adults based on a late-night cartoon for adults - Matt and Trey made Team America's first cut as gross as possible. There was a sex scene where one puppet shits on another puppet. The busybodies obviously rated that NC-17, nee X, which is still a commercial death warrant. But in doing so they listed a bunch of censorship that would lower it to R. After some performative bickering, the studio basically submitted the version they actually wanted, and it received minimal scrutiny.

The technical term is door-in-the-face technique.
