Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The 21-year-old man shot and killed by Secret Service agents after allegedly attempting to break into President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in the early hours of Sunday came from a family of “avid Trump supporters,” according to a relative.

The FBI confirmed the suspect was Austin Tucker Martin, who entered the premises at the resort’s north gate armed with a shotgun and a gas canister around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Trump and the first lady, Melania Trump, were not at the Florida residence at the time.

And the only photo showing the supposed weapons is a shitty faxed (note the scan lines) picture printed out and laying on the asphalt?

Color me sus. If it was real, Kash would have already been tweeting classified information.

[–] ZiggyTheZygote@lemmy.ca 47 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I smell another staged assassination attempt.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

A really bad one? From a guy with a family of trump supporters? That went to a house no one was staying at? Who traveled from North Carolina? Seems like a pointless staging. No one's going to get all up in arms about this.

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Occam’s Razor says he went off the deep end about the Epstein crimes and wanted justice.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I tend to agree. Supposedly MAGA cared about stopping pedophiles, it was one of their main campaigning points. We may see a lot of violence now that names are available for everyone to see.

I had similar thoughts about the Butler shooter, at the time. If they were associated with the Democrats, his administration would have made an example of them by now.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He’s too busy partying at the Olympics.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

He'll be on the scene as soon as he can get the right jacket.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 months ago

Also note that they claim he was shot after aiming the shotgun at police yet there doesn't appear to be any blood on the weapon.

[–] TranscendentalEmpire@lemmy.today 84 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I knew this guy was going to be a crazed maga dude just because they called him a crazy gunman and not some kind of leftist antifa assassin.

[–] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I just assume their right wing because they turn to violence. Not saying leftist groups can't be violent but the scales are about as unbalanced as the amount of Republicans convicted of child molestation. Shit is not EVEN REMOTELY even

[–] oopsgodisdeadmybad@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

Oh we are violent.

But usually just to Nazis.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 58 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How many more trump voters are gonna have to try and kill trump before people realize he's quickly losing support?

MAGA is eating itself, and has been for a while now

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 39 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Hopefully one of them succeeds before too long

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They only have to get lucky once, and they basically breed stupid armed criminals.

[–] bearboiblake@pawb.social 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

A Vance presidency would be worse than a Trump presidency, IMO. Trump is doing a fantastic job fucking everything up, exposing US imperialism, pushing the entire country towards the left, and revealing fascists for who they are. At this point, his death would be a negative for us.

Wo-ho! Just as i predicted when I first read the news. A Trump fanboy. Armed, dangerous, and too stupid to check if his target is actually in.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

No one has ever accused MAGA of having any sort of critical thought or intelligence.

[–] wuffah@lemmy.world 38 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Constantly trying to make sense of MAGA rhetoric would drive me insane too.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 5 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Yeah... I stopped trying to make sense of it and just take the most ridiculous parts (which is most of it) in jest most of the time.

[–] KeenFlame@feddit.nu 2 points 2 months ago

They are not jests, though. They really are killing people

Republicans: "We're not just evil! We're incompetent too!"

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

Their one saving grace

[–] merdaverse@lemmy.zip 29 points 2 months ago

Apparently there was a history of mental illness in the suspect's family:

We are big Trump supporters, all of us

[–] Bubbaonthebeach@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Supports my theory that this was a version of suicide by cop. He just couldn't live with his family any more and needed a way out.

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

When I think of how twisted and fucked up the world around you has to be to coexist with a Trump supporter? That makes total sense.

[–] frog_brawler@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I saw something about him not having any bullets. That's a pretty good indicator for suicide by cop.

Why is there a news about his family being trump supporters but not about what happened?

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

It's the job of the cops to make an X post explaining what happened.

The news media's job is to embed that X post in an article, then repeat what the X post says verbatim in the text followed by search engine fodder words and then spam their site with irrelevant sane-washing filler propaganda articles. This is an example of the latter.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Then load site with a crippling amount of ads that you can't even read the fucking article.

[–] KelvarCherry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why would we want people to read? Sensational headlines are far more compelling. The body of an article? That's just to legitimize our opinions. How else do we set ourselves apart from the hundreds of thousands of other opinion makers on mainstream social media?

Idiot showed up to Maralago with gun and a can of gas, got killed.

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 25 points 2 months ago

MAGA was built on the idea of a cabal of pedos running the world. The outcome seems normal.

[–] itisileclerk@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Every American armed agency: “shoot first, ask questions later.” It turns out that every American soldier, policeman, agent is a bloodthirsty killer, for money. Not a nice people.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I take it the other way...they have a job but they are scared shitless when something even mildly threatening happens, and react accordingly. It's more about cowardice and fear than machismo.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why go through life being a coward afraid of anything that moves, when you can go through life being a coward while getting paid with a loaded weapon at all times to be afraid of anything that moves.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I mean my favorite JFK theory is that that JFK got shot when the secret service car slammed on the brakes after Oswald opened fire on the governor of texas.

The funniest possible way for trump to die is his own secret service blasting him while trying to take down a perp.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Surprise surprise. A MAGAt moron.

One so stupid he went there despite the Pedo-in-Chief not even being there...

[–] KelvarCherry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 2 months ago (1 children)

maybe show some respect to this man who got out of his house and tried something. We don't know how he voted. We don't know what this man believed, besides that he was rightfully disgusted by the Epstein Files. Lots of people disagree with their parents; like, y'know, the killers behind the last two big assassinations.

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Agreed. They're heroes and shouldn't be dismissed as just crazed nutjobs. But they're innocent actually. We won't know the political motivations until the responsible mossad agents are caught.

[–] Gaja0@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 months ago

We're all tired of pretending it's fine for the rich to rape and torture children on our dime. Anyone driven to act is not some villain or violent animal, but someone with a sense of justice, a firearm, and a self destructive lack of inhibition.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago

‘We are big Trump supporters, all of us’

Evidence would suggest otherwise.

[–] skhayfa@lemmy.world 16 points 2 months ago

It's becoming a trend

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 months ago

Was he wearing a suit from Men’s Wearhouse? Some tactical gear? Abercrombie & Fitch? Bass Pro Shops panties? It doesn’t matter one bit what he was wearing. I’m just curious.

[–] oopsgodisdeadmybad@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 months ago

And nothing of value was lost.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

i don't believe for a second their story

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

that's another checked off bingo square

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

He didn't leave a message? Was he just on drugs?
