King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard because they are carrying all of the genres

[–] P1nkman@lemmy.world 1 points 46 minutes ago

Moron Police. I highly recommend their two later albums.

[–] SethranKada@lemmy.ca 1 points 53 minutes ago

Imagine Dragons, for sure.

Coldplay is good too, Brunuhville, Lindsay Sterling, The FatRat. All great.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Changes a lot, but Stroke 9, Susto, Tiny Victories, Hollywood Undead all come up often.

[–] vittoria666@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Linkin Park

Hot Mulligan or sleepmakeswaves

[–] Smaagi@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 hours ago

Alestorm! It has everything, drunk pirates, silly pirates, horny pirates, bloodlusting pirates and pizza, for reasons I guess.

You have inspired me. I am listening to Lincoln.

[–] spacemanspiffy@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

King Crimson is the official answer.

But I put Tool, Meshuggah, Between the Buried and Me, and maybe Karnivool in second place.

Love

Of course it's kind of a situational thing, favorite band can be different depending in when it's asked but I think Love has been the one band I never take a break from listening to and never get tired of.
Talking Heads is a very close second, and then many many more close third.
I really want to start sharing music more, but I have to find good ways to share the playlists I make.

I'm one of those horrible Cardiacs people, the ones that listen to Cardiacs

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago

I certainly hope you caught the album release last year

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

That's an impossible question.

The best live shows I ever saw in my life were Fela Kuti, Henry Rollins.

Right now I love Fontaines DC, Joshua Ray Walker, Leon Bridges as recording artists.

Favorite old album is Silk Degrees, but I wouldn't say I love Boz Scaggs, just that one album is so ridiculously good.

Favorite new album definitely Romance, Fontaines DC.

Best 'underrated' J Roddy Walston & the Business, their live shows and records were amazing.

Can't say I have a favorite band though.

Between the Buried and Me is one of my favorites, as is Parkway Drive recently. Other top artists are ones like gloryhammer, Amararanthe, and Alestorm. Outside of metal, bands like Supercommuter/Optimus Rhyme, MC Frontalot, mc chris, and Captain Dan tend to be my most played

One of my favorite random artists I've found recently is Anthony Vincent who makes songs covers in the style of other artists, and I just can't get enough of Mr Brightside by A7X

Just kidding… NIN

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 1 points 7 hours ago

It's changed from year to year and scene to scene and phase of life to phase of life. But Pink Floyd has always been up there.

The Wrecks

Currently love their pushback on anti empathy in the most punk way.
They have a song Sonder and Soapbox that are great when you are feeling like you are stuck with people who don't care.

They perform great live.

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

We saw them here, and yeah what a great live act!

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 1 points 2 hours ago

Truly some amazing musicians, could complain about his mom dancing with his best friend to a song about depression and not miss a single note.

[–] meow@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 9 hours ago

I like ISM(Industrial, Scientific, Medical... Its a radio frequency band...)

[–] Canopyflyer@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

My favorite band is that awesome trio from Toronto...

Triumph.

Slowly exits stage left.

[–] BrambinagStoneboots@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Jethro Tull Iron Maiden Opeth Primus

Between those I cannot decide.

[–] letsgo2themall@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Primus sucks!

[–] imetators@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 hours ago

Nice to see a fellow Primus enjoyer once in a while.

[–] Quazatron@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The Presidents Of The United States Of America.

Silly lyrics about bugs and serious rock. What's not to like?

[–] iamericandre@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Kitty at my foot and I want to touch it

[–] UniversalBasicJustice@quokk.au 9 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Overall? Between the Buried and Me

By genre?

Black Metal - White Ward (Slavs Ukraini!), Ihsahn

Death - First Fragment, Ulcerate

Instrumental - Animals as Leaders, CHON

(Post-)Hardcore - The Fall of Troy

Progressive (that isn't BTBAM) - Protest the Hero, Ne Obliviscaris

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

A user of culture I see. I've not heard of Ne Obliviscaris, so I'll have to check them out

[–] UniversalBasicJustice@quokk.au 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I'd start with either Citadel or Exul. PLEASE return with your assessment.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (1 children)

I got a few songs into Citadel and I want to like them, but I feel they'd be better served as instrumental based on the painters of the tempest trilogy and pyrrhic. I'll see about giving Exul a chance though, thanks for the recommendation!

[–] UniversalBasicJustice@quokk.au 1 points 2 hours ago

Thats fair! The instrumental portion is absolutely where my ear is tuned Into. The guitar solo on Misericorde pt 2 on Exul is one of my favorite solos of all time and I've heard a LOT of guitar solos.

[–] eightpix@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

The Roots (first four albums especially)

Godspeed You! Black Emperor / A Sliver Mt. Zion

King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard. Their live shows kick ass and they've got such amazing chemistry together. Love listening to them jam.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 2 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

It's a four-way tie between David Byrne/Talking Heads, Oingo Boingo, Spin Doctors and Yello.

Edit: five way tie - add in Earth, Wind and Fire (pre 1981)

[–] iamericandre@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Probably either steely dan or the replacements

[–] PrivateNoob@sopuli.xyz 1 points 11 hours ago

My current favorite band / musician is STOMACH BOOK. The main overarching theme she presents is trans pain manifested in anger and wrath. I love it, I'm not even trans.

[–] peacefulpixel@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Silver Mt Zion
