Literally Spez right now...

(I'd post the uncensored image but IIRC Lemmy World is German-based and have strict laws against Nazi iconography)

He's wilfully given the data of users who have criticized Trump and ICE, AND he looks like a spitting image of Tintin...

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Theil should be removed from any authoritative seats he may hold, and then be stripped of his wealth to stop him buying our elected officials

Fucking never. Never ever. I'd sooner cut myself off from all technology and live in the woods than willingly give those creepy fucks my middle goddamn name. There is absolutely nothing good that will come from this company. The people at that company literally fucking movie villains. It's fucking crazy that absolutely anyone works with them, let alone world governments.

These large scale surveillance companies like Palantir, like Flock, they shouldn't exist. They should be outlawed. Our government needs probable cause and a warrant to surveil a suspect. If a normal civilian followed you around and filmed you, kept track of you at all times, they'd be arrested for stalking. But for some reason private companies can just watch every man, woman, and child in public and online, catalog all our movements, where we went, how we went there, who was with us, track what we do, what we read, who we know, how we spend our time, what we say, etc., and then permanently log all of that, use it to form dociers on us, predict our behaviors, or desires, ways to manipulate us, and then turn around and sell that data to governments, other companies and private parties. How the fuck is that legal.

Why in the fuck would you ever allow a private, profit-driven company to have that kind of power over your nation, let alone reward it with federal dollars, long term contracts and access to our law enforcement and military data and systems?

Worse, the founders and CEO are unhinged wannabe dictators trying to form their own sovereign techno-states. They're not even secretive about that. And our goverment is fucking funding these nuts and giving them every detail of the lives of our citizenry, our goverment officials, our military... how fucking stupid do we have to be, guys? I wish I could say it's just Trump but it's not. It's mind boggling.

I’m here because of this. 10 year old Reddit account deleted, app deleted, done over and out.

Peter fucking thiel has too much money and is backing everything, for example PayPal and stripe that are processing 80% of e-commerce payments

[–] ChadGPT2@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago (5 children)

What is the lemmy equivalent for discord?

[–] DFX4509B@lemmy.wtf 4 points 7 hours ago

Matrix. Also to a much lesser degree XMPP.

[–] WeavingSpider@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

Nothing so far, there is Stoat, Roomy and Root, iirc there are others but I do not recall them atm.

[–] Mayoman68@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Matrix is probably the closest in terms of being widespread and well supported by client and server implementations, though it's not quite the same. It's a bit finicky in practice too.

palintirs AI desperate need to get clients, so when the bubble burst they wont be hurt that much.

It's a great way to kill those products. That's maybe the only upside.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 36 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Is it?

Most people won't care and continue using it anyways.

I won't, for sure, but most people are fucking idiots when it comes to this stuff

[–] lastlybutfirstly@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

The problem is there are a lot of subreddits that are an excellent resource. As far as I know, there aren't any Blender help instances with a 100,000 people. I really wish there were.

[–] YeahToast@aussie.zone 4 points 8 hours ago

Yeah, I haven't used reddit for years, but recently landed there trying to figure out an issue with raspberry pi /ssh. So much content and support.. real shame

Fucking Peter literally creating the very monster he claims to hate.

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 9 points 10 hours ago

They're trying to force it to happen. They somehow think they'll be spared any only the people they hate will have to suffer.

[–] Numinous_Ylem@lemmy.world 162 points 19 hours ago (3 children)

Abandon all of these platforms and any others that associate in any way with Palantir or Thiel

[–] jimmy90@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

i still use them without going through the id system

hasn't affected me at all

[–] root@lemmy.world 42 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Almost wish I could be part of the exodus, but I use none of these

The problem is that millions do, and won't understand what the big deal is, and be sucked into the fucking psyop vortex.

If people cared about "the children" they wouldn't let them on the Internet until they were 21.

If people cared about humanity they wouldn't allow "the algorithms" to exist or let social media or news media exist they way it does now.

[–] Virtvirt588@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

If people cared about "the children" they wouldn't let them on the Internet until they were 21.

Yeah, that's only for the people that think they care, but are actually ageist and discriminate.

Protecting children comes in hand with protecting humanity. The sole existence of predatory algorithms, and other shit makes age meaningless.

[–] freeman@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

People 18 and over are adults. I know the US somehow forbids adults from drinking but I don't think more countries should dilute people's rights.

[–] Virtvirt588@lemmy.world 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

Even if op's case was satirical, it is quite ageist honestly. It is the difference between freedom and submission. Such outdated statements about increasing the common age is just a fascist disguise - minors which includes teens have less and less rights just because the belief that children shall be protected by bans is acceptable.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 18 hours ago (5 children)

I don’t think that’s the solution though, kids (including teens to some extent) can be on the internet but it requires better parenting. It’s better to monitor what they are doing online until they are like 15 or 16, maybe 17 if you have a really good reason too. Limit screen time, be around to answer questions your kid has about what they might see.

Little kids though? Absolutely should be off the internet. Anyone under 10 shouldn’t be on the internet period in my opinion. 10-12 is kinda a gray zone to me where it’s definitely up to the parents and if they think their child is ready.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 18 hours ago (4 children)

Also since they weren’t allowed on the internet till they were 21, those 21 year olds won’t know how to act on the internet. So now there’s 21 year olds roaming around who will need to figure all that shit out. They might get other aspects of being an adult but the internet will be completely alien.

It’s like when I saw people saying kids shouldn’t be allowed into the grocery store because someone was annoyed that kids didn’t know how to behave there yet. You just create a new and larger problem where adults don’t know how to act.

My nephew has a new baby. Her parents are constantly waving their phones in her face; sending pics back and forth; generally doing 'millenial things' with their phones when not actively attending the baby. Then proceed to get all freaked out when the baby expresses interest or curiosity in the phone.

Kids mimic their parents behavior and interests. If you want kids with healthy internet use, you have to have parents model healthy internet use.

I tried convincing my friends to leave discord, and only 2 people attempted, but I kind of fucked up by enabling message encryption.

But now that this bullshit is here, I wonder if I should try again? I might go the VPS route and call it a day, but I really want to have it locally hosted so I don't have yet another thing to pay monthly.
