porky-happy: "Hey poors, I'M getting a raise! I think my slop is worth more!"

porky-happy: "Hey poors, I'M getting a raise! That 2k studio is looking pretty fancy, it's worth 2.5k a month now!"

soviet-chad: "Hey pork, I'M getting a raise. Me and the union have been talking and our labor is worth more than just pennies."

porky-scared-flipped grill-broke: "How DARE YOU!?!?! Do the right thing, give porky as much labor as you can for as cheaply as possible! It's the moral thing to do!"

I’ve fully switched to big 1kg/2.2lb+ bags of whole bean from Costco. Depending on brand they’re $17-20 and often cheaper. I’d also recommend Aldi coffee because they have some good varieties for cheaper ($5-8 for 12oz) than Walmart or other grocery stores.

A ~~1-lb~~ 16oz (mixed up my stupid freedom units) bag of whole bean coffee usually hovers about that (more if you get something fancy). I think the tariffs fucked coffee prices more than anything.

I think the tariffs fucked coffee prices more than anything.

At the grocery store I frequent, I watched the price of bulk coffee jump from $8/pound to $11/pound right after those tariffs hit. Then my dipshit "not a right winger" coworker came in and started bragging about some trump tariff rebate check that I never heard of

Yeah, I can only buy it now when it goes down to $9 on sale...which is still an obscene price for something that was like $4 2-3 years ago.

It's also the fancy places have started doing 12oz instead of 16oz so hard to even get a pound and it goes more than 1lbs bags used too.

Surprisingly my fancy Costa Rican coffee has stayed about steady in price. It went out of stock for months when tariffs hit, but quickly went back to normal pricing.

I still stock up whenever I'm down there because it's like 1/2 to 1/4 the price.

Even the shittiest bottom of the barrel coffee like Cafe Bustelo is now $10 for a 10oz tin. Used to buy it at the dollar store years ago because it was maybe $2 for a 12oz brick. Especially sucks if you like good roasted coffee beans. We're talking nearly $20 for a 12oz bag now. I've just been buying staples like sugar/coffee/rice in huge bulks now like a fucking survivalist prepper or something because it's cheaper and limits me having to go out in public

I wish there was some way to coordinate mutual aid on this site anonymously, we could put funds together to purchase bulk stables and someone could mail out portions to the hexbear ration list. There are so many ways we could be doing things more efficiently as a society, the technology is there for it.

i moved out right before the CoL crisis. its been so cool to understand everything in my life getting 20% more expensive, i get coffee in 3 pound tins and it went from 14 to 20 now.

May as well start getting the Zapatista coffee. If you can afford around 18/lb, you can order a 5lb or 2x 3lb bags. If you have friends you can do multiple bags and save on the shipping btw.

Obviously sucks if you don't have a bit of a stack of cash, but your post reminded me and so I ordered 2x 3lbs - one to freeze, one to use.

Edit, I should say, obviously there's "cheaper" brands if you need to, but I feel like supporting comrades is worth the slight mark up (and really, it's the same price as a decent bag of stumptown, etc.)
