Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.

Because they were hick trash? Because its grunge ripped away from the punk and counter culture roots?

I watched like half the video and I heavily disagree with this dude, he probably has this take because he's not American. A lot of people have never heard of The Strokes and Radiohead where I'm from. They have always liked Nickelback, Nickelback is the poster child for rock music for racist white Suburbia who drive their death machines, drink busch, and act like they're rural.

I think rock music in general, heavily uses a "rebel without a cause" trope. They present themselves as fighting against a status quo or authority without specific details. It allows the audience to substitute their own personal grievances as the enemy of the song. This steals the revolution aesthetic and defangs it to be brand friendly, compatible with corporations.

Nickelback took this method to the extreme. Rebellious aesthetic without any sort of tangible goals and completely toothless. Also low effort.

I never hated nickelback...

nearly as much as the other post grunge bands that were popular at the time. But they still suck.

I thought I avoided Nickelback because they are wildly successful soulless corporate rock. I was going to say "hate" but I don't have to listen to them so I don't.

I played "Silver Side Up" on my CD player on repeat at around 11 or 12. Now I listen to music so off-putting I've been asked if I'm doing a bit by saying I like it.

Still think it's just a harmless rock band? It's a gateway to even worse music

Just take the David Cross bit about Creed and sub in Nickelback and it all still applies
