say what you will but failed artists have gone one to do much worse things

me seeing a great darkness in an artist's eyes

N-no... This is some amazing art. I l-love it haha. It's important that you don't give up on art and try to ummm... find another way to express yourself. In a visual medium... Without getting into politics or whatever, you know?

I mean, not even failed really was he? If he was published and then cancelled, that's more successful than the vast majority.

The screenshot makes it look like the character transitioned LMAO.

Good for her, shes more successful now.

I was a hero in a fantasy kingdom but I got reborn in another universe and became a gyaru girl

I thought it was pretty common for artists to crossover between the regular and the adult sides of the manga industry? (albeit usually the other way around)

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 26 points 2 days ago

not just a manga thing, lots of normal artists in every industry will do lewd commissions secretly on the side

[–] mayo_cider@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago

My backup plan to programming is furry commissions

This is apparently the basketball scene

And don't get me wrong, it's better than I could draw, but there is some Rob Liefield shit going on with some of these proportions

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Come on any of the “weird proportions” here seem like clear artistic choices. Rob does what Rob does because he’s Rob, it’s not a choice.

#7's head feels wrong in many ways

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

Goomba from Mario movie '93 proportions

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 days ago

But given everything else around him it has to be on purpose. Rob seems to be incapable of drawing proportions. This artists seems very capable of that from just these panels.

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'd say Rob's artistic decisions are a choice, he just got stuck in a certain style well past the point when everyone else stopped thinking it was cool.

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wasn’t really around back then to know if people genuinely thought it was cool. From what I understand only people who were brand new to comics liked him. People who were comic fans hated him from the start. But again, I wasn’t there.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I was in middle school at the time, and he had a ton of fans among the comic kids. I wasn't one and I always thought Liefield's shit.was weird AF

[–] novibe@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago

I mean, kids

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

To be fair, irl pro athletes tend to have some stuff going on with their proportions in general.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

his head is even smaller than Hasan's!

[–] mayo_cider@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago

That's a couple of black bars away from gay porn

[–] miz@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

TIL basketball isn't a sport

I looked it up out of morbid curiosity and it's really bad. He's got that overly busy horror manga linework and shading style that's just kind of visually repellent as its key point, and the actual content is the worst combination of generically dull and extremely gross. Also like a third of the stuff he's put out is nonce shit, because of course it is.

Ok but I like that guts-pain

[–] besbin@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You mean for the normal manga or hentai part of the mangaka works? Their style is really distinctive and borderline horror but that doesn't make it bad art. Content wise hentai and manga have its own set of tropes and genres that would fall into the weird, gross or bizarre to outsiders so is it average because it's repeating others or just cause it's average to you?

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

that doesn't make it bad art.

I didn't say the art is bad, but that the work is. The art is just extremely ill fitting for hentai, and the subject matter itself is, and I don't articulate this better, that sort of composition where it doesn't even matter what kink it's trying to do it'll still be really bland and uninteresting looking, kind of like the human equivalent of how AI generators can churn out a wide range of flavorless slurries that's all ultimately equally empty and dull regardless of content.
