So if later, when digging through company emails during some deposition, it turns out that this slithering lying snake obviously knew better, we will have proof that he knowingly and willingly harmed children for money.

We will jail that fucker for life, then, right? All the world wide harm he has caused to so many kids? Of course we'll do.... Nothing.

The owners of the company that gave us the opioid epidemic knew full well that people got addicted to their heroine, and were dying from it, making them push it even harder, because more money. How many of them saw jail time?

None. We gave them a small tax on their ridiculous profits and they got a movie made where we make them look bad. Seriously, if somebody goes and shoot this entire family down, full Kristy noem doggy style, I would celebrate it as that person would have made the world a better place.

There are vile, evil people out there

The federal government is run by people who harm children for sport

"If [cigarettes] are behaviorally addictive or habit forming, they are much more like … Gummi Bears... I'm certainly not addicted to them."

-Philip Morris CEO

I think it's more addicting than cigarettes. I used to be a pack-a-day smoker once upon a time. That was a hard habit to give up. Like it took years to reprogram my body and mind to get away from it.

I've been continuously trying to cut down on my social media, because just like everyone else, it's rotting my brain and affecting my moods. It's literally just as, if not maybe even more harmful than cigarettes in most ways. It's certainly a more potent addiction, that's for sure, and it's more dangerous. I mean cigarettes will kill you long term, sure. But social media will turn you into a socially inept, manipulated, raging angerbomb that is much more dangerous to yourself and everything and everybody around you than arguably cigarettes, and in a much shorter time span. You don't even notice it either, it's latent damage thats occurring (like cigarettes).

It's a dopamine hit like no other too, and again, you don't even realize it until you are self-conscious about it and working very hard at it. I've experimented with some powerful drugs in my lifetime, and it's hard to explain to a lot of people because drug use rewards are more instant and much more apparent. But whatever weird brain reward system social media powers, I'm convinced it's just as powerful of a hit as the hardest drugs. It's certainly very very very hard to get away from.

That is the quote of a man who is thriving under deregulation. In the current political climate, huge corporations can do whatever the hell they want and blame their consumers. The EU still has some guardrails, so I am glad to live in Europe. However, as the car industry lobby already proved, those can be eroded as well.

Sounds like something an addict would say.

Joke’s aside though I’m happy with my meta-free life after leaving it all behind shortly after the last election results and it being clear that robot boy was (pretending to be) a fan of the orange man.

Only thing I can’t leave yet is WhatsApp because my volunteering group won’t switch. They are mostly boomers so it’s really difficult to get them to move.

Tobacco industry boss: smoking two packs a day is not addiction.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 43 points 1 day ago

16 hours?!? Fuck… mine are rookie numbers and I know I am addicted…

[–] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 28 points 23 hours ago (3 children)

Sorry, a double shift of one activity per day isn't an addiction? If anybody is DOING anything for 16 hours straight, then that's an addiction. Only exception I can think of is sleeping, but that's only in very specific circumstances, and not for a prolonged period of time.

[–] sabreW4K3@lazysoci.al 21 points 23 hours ago

Only exception I can think of is sleeping

I can only fantasize about 8 hours of sleep let alone 16.

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 7 points 23 hours ago

stops breathing for a third of the day

I'm with you. I just had to pull your leg a little.

Pfft, that’s just like when I was totally not addicted to WoW, could quit anytime I swear

[–] definitemaybe@lemmy.ca 4 points 20 hours ago

Does running auctions while doing other things count? Because, if so, I definitely hit 16+ hours in WoW some days. Semi-automated glyph relisting, undercutting by 1c.

Then again, I hit the gold cap in Wrath, before I quit. So it was totally time well spent.

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 11 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

I want this guy to tell me how many hours a day you'd need to be high on heroine in order to be "addicted".

[–] bonenode@piefed.social 5 points 18 hours ago

16.1 hours. Next question.

[–] Thedogdrinkscoffee@lemmy.ca 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What did you think he was going to say? Lol.

[–] GammaGames@beehaw.org 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

All of the headlines coming out of the case are silly, do people really expect them to admit fault? Lol, lmao even

[–] definitemaybe@lemmy.ca 3 points 20 hours ago

Seriously. If he was going to admit fault, they'd have settled already.

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 4 points 22 hours ago

Now imagine the quote is about cocaine.
