Love the Streisand effect. I had no idea there was footage of this cabbage patch chimp getting booed at the Olympics until they blocked it πŸ˜†

Ask yourselves, why do officials need ICE protection when they have the Secret Service?

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

They’re there to assist policing American fans, not to protect officials.

[–] bob_lemon@feddit.org 1 points 38 minutes ago

Because the US didn't have enough actual police officers they could bring?

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 24 points 7 hours ago (4 children)

Everyone hates you Vance. They hate you because you are dumb and you suck and you are a bad person.

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 4 points 2 hours ago

and a couch fucker

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know that he's dumb, but that makes him even worse.

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

[–] 6stringringer@lemmy.zip 1 points 20 minutes ago

Unfortunately a hollow straw man.

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 3 points 5 hours ago

The world is Michael Scott and Vance is Toby

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Can confirm.

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 3 points 5 hours ago

The video from the TV station must be copyrighted, but about everybody else's video from the audience?

[–] waggz@programming.dev 47 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

What was it musk said? something about censorship by tyrants?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 23 points 8 hours ago (2 children)
[–] nforminvasion@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 1 points 2 hours ago

happy happy cake daaaaay!

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Probably DMCA. The Olympic committee is very jealous and very aggressive. They control all recordings strictly.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 15 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

They don't control my tivo recordings.

Which is why everyone should oppose ATSC 3.0.

With ATSC 3.0, TV stations can literally insert ads overlayed on screen at any point.

They can use your tv's smart functions to literally track your behavior.

They can refuse to allow you to record tv stations entirely, or just kndividual shows.

They can delete shows without your consent. They can block you from watching shows. They can make OTA tv programing pay per view.

I'm not saying they ARE doing this, or are planning it, but they CAN. And if capitalism has taught me anything it's "fuck you, pay us, and then pay us again, and fuck you again".

See......humans are stupid. We could all be living in lush rich forests, having sex in bright sunny fields, with no cares in the world.

Instead, we all have jobs, and make ourselves slaves to them. We hand over control of all aspects of our lives to corporations.

Instead of utopia, we live in a parking lot jungle. Where the profits for paid parking are more important than affordable housing, and rent control.

And it all rolls downhill. Even television is trying its hand at enshitification. Don't buy a smart tv. Don't buy ATSC 3.0 anything. Tell these fuckers to fuck off!

[–] nforminvasion@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I always have my "smart" TV disconnected from internet, and I run my media viewing through the steam deck in desktop mode, but any Linux computer will work just as fine. Then I employ some high sea villainy and boom, set to coast.

[–] MeThisGuy@feddit.nl 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

TiVo.. now that's a name I haven't heard in a long long time. they still around?

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

I bought lifetime subscription 10+ years ago. It still updates the guide, but they stopped selling hardware.

Which is a shame. I like Tivo.

[–] motruck@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 hours ago

Uh. Stop using TV. They fucked that platform already.

[–] waggz@programming.dev 2 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

ianal but I'm pretty sure dmca wouldn't apply to free use exceptions if needed reporting and commentary

Problem is that fair use doesn't prevent a dmca takedown. It doesn't really matter until you go to court and prove it, unfortunately. These takedowns are functioning exactly as designed, allowing for easy corporate censorship with minimal repercussions for abuse.

ICE providing security for American politicians in another country? Don’t they have a dedicated security group called the Secret service or something like that?

[–] sunbeam60@feddit.uk 49 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah but the party prefers their brown shirts.

[–] III@lemmy.world -1 points 7 hours ago

I prefer brown pants

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 1 points 4 hours ago

Most countries send a policing presence to major international sporting tournaments.

[–] BedSharkPal@lemmy.ca 31 points 11 hours ago

I thought comedy was legal now? Video sure gave me a laugh.

Wish that shit platform would support free speech and not just csam.

[–] homes@piefed.world 55 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

How adorable! It’s all the fuck over YouTube

[–] sqgl@sh.itjust.works 11 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

Yes but if the presenters didn't mention it, I could not detect boos from the video alone.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iZRAa4fKZ3U

I have noticed this often when someone gets booed. Pretty obvious when you are there but not on video. As an audio nerd it has me perplexed.

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I also think they were ready for that and they masked it live. It doesn't make any sense for the presenters to mention the booing if you can't even hear it in the recording. It must have been very loud.

[–] sqgl@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago) (1 children)

I don't know how one would mask it Maybe the crowd is totally overdubbed. I cannot find phone recordings. Are all phone uploads of the event being rejected by YouTube?

[–] Scrollone@feddit.it 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

It's not hard to mask them, just lower the microphones from the audience or play something else instead

[–] Mog_fanatic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

It's all about mic placement. Ive had the good fortune to play sports on live tv in front of large crowds a good amount and it's not uncommon at all for the crowd sound on the broadcast to be way different than in person. That's being said, I'd bet there's a different broadcast from a different country where you can totally hear the boos.

[–] homes@piefed.world 1 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

If only there hadn’t been almost 300 years of testimony and evidence of the horror…

If you’re alive now, you won’t be for much longer

[–] K1nsey6@lemmy.world 38 points 12 hours ago (3 children)

I've seen NBC edited out the boos on their broadcast

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 1 points 3 hours ago

NBC are the only broadcaster to take their own full camera setup so they can focus on American competitors. They don’t have quite have the Olympic spirit.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 9 points 7 hours ago

So sad the regime needs to protect its citizens from its international perception via media censorship. Very North Korea.

[–] homes@piefed.world 18 points 11 hours ago

You know, I just read that about an hour ago, but I can’t seem to find that version of the video. All the versions I see are the ones with all the boos and jeers, lol.

Someone’s algorithm needs a tweak…

[–] degenerate_neutron_matter@fedia.io 12 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

The copyright doesn't apply to the event of Vance being booed itself, it applies to that specific video recording of it. Sure the video creator is a dick for getting it taken down, but they're within their legal rights to.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Copyright is a compromise, not an absolute. It has all kinds of provisions for things like commentary, public interest etc which generally speaking does allow short clips of a greater work.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 1 points 4 hours ago

In some jurisdictions

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 16 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

People should just upload it (slightly cut or stretched) again and again. And again.

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 17 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Nitecore edit (S L O W E D + R E V E R B)

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

That will give them fuel to call it fake and edited.

[–] motruck@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 hours ago

They don't need doctored video to make that claim.
