AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

The move is part of the app's plans to become “an AI-first company."

[David Attenborough voice] "..... and here we see the CEO. Limited in their understanding of the human world, but still, extremely adept at using financial tools. This one has copied others. Watch as they clumsily seek to use this tool to lever more money for no user benefit. They will try and try again until they acheive something. Even if they destroy what they originally had......."

"AI first company"? What does it even mean?

Why can't they just be a gay dating app that makes use of AI?

The word "first" implies that AI is going to the primary focus.

So, they want to change their core business from being a gay dating app to being an AI company?

With explanations like "AI is not a specific feature", I have to wonder what makes them think their company is able to do anything competitive in the already saturated AI market.

Alright, so we need a replacement platform where gay humans instead of gay computers can hook up...

20% off if you are MAGA.

Gotta grind harder to get that Republican PAC money

Seriously, based on what i heard grindr makes it really really really easy to hook up. Like based on what I was told, you can find someone for now.

Now I might be wrong... but I don't think someone looking for a relationship (and 500 bucks per month to spend it like that) will struggle to find someone to date. And if my information is correct, hooking up would be even easier.

So why would someone spend 500bucks per month on that.

Gay people, I need your input. Is my information correct?

Basically there is a small percentage of Grindr users who are full on addicted to the app. Grindr knows this and the last five years or so the company has been fully focused on squeezing them for every penny, even at the expense of losing millions of free users.

Don't take my word for it, here is a Wall Street analyst talking about it with receipts.

Find someone to fuck, relationship is much harder. And you need to be hot. I don't know how the 500 dollars will help unless it's to find someone wanting to be paid. Many times people offered me money and I rejected, so I guess they might have found a market.

And grindr is good to find people to fuck like Facebook is good to find used products. It's shit, it's disgusting and no one would use if not because everyone is only there.

As usual, the users are the product. The software is garbage and they abuse their position as much as they can, just like Facebook.

Oh, and it's not grindr that makes it easy to fuck. Gay people do. Before grindr there were websites, and before that, there were famous parking lots and toilets. We always found ways to have sex with random guys. Straight women are very different.

Straight women are very different.

So true 😔

I think you mostly confirmed my understanding. Thanks for your input.

Take care and stay safe.

"max shit level"

Because Grindr is aimed at men more likely to be into bummery.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago

I think you're doing anal wrong bro...

[–] formergijoe@lemmy.world 15 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

With the price varying by city and user, is this just a way to fleece RNC goers for causing Grindr to crash?

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago
[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

i mean people have been taking it literally since platforms like chai or polybuzz.

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

So, setting entirely aside the fact that Grindr caters to gay men (and women?) and I'm straight... this gets a "hell no" on price alone before we even get to the AI.

For $500 a month a dating app better be getting me laid at least 3-4 times a month, and even that's egregious because it's not like the other person is getting paid. They aren't. So in straight dating, you have a vastly greater population of men looking for women. But even if you pay the app $500 a month, the women still have the right to say no. I mean, of course they do. What is the expectation? That you're buying sex? That's illegal most places. Now if you're going to use AI to influence the outcome, to embellish your profile and enhance your features, that's an attempt to bypass consent through omission or misdirection, which is a violation of trust. So even if I liked AI and saw it as useful, I would consider this a scummy use of it, not related to my feelings about the technology, but strictly due to my own personal integrity.

Of course, one's personal integrity is a good reason to say "fuck AI," but in this case, the negative feelings toward AI are not needed at all. It's just scummy for more intrinsic reasons. But I think it's easy for guys to say "well I've been having a dry spell, I might sub for one month"... okay but would you want your sister, daughter, niece, female cousin, or female friend to be duped or catfished like that? No, you probably wouldn't. So don't fucking do it to another person.

[–] DrBob@lemmy.ca 10 points 20 hours ago

If I understand Grindr correctly 3-4 times a month are rookie numbers.

[–] tenchiken@anarchist.nexus 10 points 21 hours ago

Capitalism and "AI": Revolutionizing ways to get fucked in the ass literally, metaphorically, financially, spiritually and climatically.

Bloody hell, can't y'all just let gay people shag?!

They just have to smear their bullshit all over anything good.

That dip in process is part of a larger tech trend that journalist Cory Doctorow has called “enshittification,”

Yeup

[–] green_red_black@slrpnk.net 7 points 21 hours ago

Hey at least maybe now those Guys at the next Republican Convention can have something to chat to while the app is down in their area LoL

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 3 points 18 hours ago

Maybe Grindr is just trying to go full pimp here and will guarantee you one of the CEOs personal sex slaves for early adopters.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 7 points 23 hours ago

Hell nah(am saying this Cause I dislike "ai-first")

[–] frosty@pawb.social 6 points 23 hours ago

Hard swipe left.
